Come Forth, O God Of Sleep
Come Forth, O God Of Sleep
Day’s King has departed long since;
Dense is the darkness now,
Drenched is the night;
O Deadly Death’s first cousin,
Descend on my dreary soul,
Drive the niggling pain away,
Decree it the desired rest!
Life has stolen my last summer,
Compensating with a longer winter
Designed perhaps to decipher
My fortitude and calibre!
Tougher has been the battle since
That’s drained my ebullient spirit,
Forcing on me insomnia infinite,
Distancing my fond dreams awhile!
Come forth, O God of Sleep,
Lay me in your soothing embrace,
To restore my fatigued body,
Rejuvenate my fretted soul,
Infusing in me bountiful intensity
That’ll last until my last breath.
