Beneath The Mask
Beneath The Mask

The human face is actually a mask,
Reading things beneath it is a difficult task.
I tried nevertheless, I tried hard,
And then I succeeded, finally, at last.
I went to a circus and saw a clown,
Burst into an uncontrollable laughter,
But when I looked beneath the mask, I realized,
That to make the joker laugh,
Was actually an unenviable task.
I then saw a leader give a speech,
Honesty was something he loved to preach.
But when I looked beneath the mask,
I realized that honesty and the leader were poles apart.
I then saw a filmstar with sparkle in his eyes,
And a smile that said all is healthy and bright.
But when I looked beneath the mask,
I realized that it were his insecurities he was trying to surpass.
I then saw an armyman,
He looked tough and hard.
That his face didn’t bear a smile,
I thought was the bad part.
But when I looked beneath the mask,
I realized that it was the smile in his heart that actually set him apart.
I then saw a criminal,
With anger in his eyes.
Murder, theft and robbery, I was sure were not his only vice.
But when I looked beneath the mask,
I realized that it was not him,
But the society that needed to be taken to task.
I then saw a girl,
And she waved back at me,
Her face I thought was as pretty as it could be.
But when I looked beneath the mask,
I realized that her face was a cover,
For some things she didn’t want the world to discover.
I then looked at the mirror,
And it looked back at me.
You’re a nice person, the mirror told me.
But when I looked beneath the mask,
I realized that there was a devil,
that I was trying to hide.
