Your First Tender Kick
Your First Tender Kick

Your first tender kick
From inside the womb
Left us enough to imagine
Your needful naughtiness around,
Soon to invigorate us and
Drive the lethargy away.
Yours first cry later
Attesting your welcome arrival
Sounded an enchanting alarm
To wake us up from slumber,
To live afresh a kingly life,
A princess that you are.
Your first smile with those
Soft, little petal-like lips
Brought us the missing light
Invading the wretched darkness
That pervaded all around.
Your first crawl on all fours –
As the monarch of all you surveyed –
Taught us how we must
Confront challenges head on
With no lame excuses to live by.
Your first step at last
Braving the numerous falls
Lent us hope:
There's someone now
To hold our hand, and make us
Walk to that foggy, fag end.
