A Piquant Odyssey

A Piquant Odyssey

There are an unsettling heaviness and a quaint atmosphere,

As the crimson-hued sun begins to set and the stars begin to glitter,

As the leaves of the Maple start to rustle and the hawks continue to chitter,

I unravel through the memories and catch a glimpse of her ravishing eyes and sob,

Pondering about a relationship that never saw the light of existence yet went bitter.

It just feels so uncanny,

All the euphoric moments being engulfed by the vacuum of tragedies and mishaps,

You muster up acceptance and tend to move on,

But then your eyes moisten and heart swells up,

As you wage a war against the demons every dawn.

She stirred up a storm and effaced my void,

My barren and sulky ticker was now overjoyed,

I recollect playing “Flames” till the last drop of my ink,

Her charisma and flamboyance captivated me,

I had to constantly keep reminding my beady orbs to blink.

Every second after the Insta request felt like an eternity,

As I anxiously glanced my phone waiting for her to sow the seeds,

I knew that love “had” no bounds, overpowering caste and creed,

I should have known, I should have prepared to mentally face the truth,

That she would never initiate nor propagate to ripen “our” fruit.

I owe it big time to the being, who came up with the slam book,

Her golden words gushed over my heart like the serene, gentle brook,

I vividly picture that morning when I zoomed to school to be the first one to wish her,

With a silk in one hand and greeting card in the other,

And I looked into her eyes and felt her palm wishing the feeling would last forever.

With farewell approaching, I knew I had to finally pour it out,

I assembled the forces of courage, a rose and the best blazer I could find,

And made my way through the crowd with a thumping heart and a nervous mind,

All the fantasies, all the bliss,

Shred into a million little pieces as I saw them kiss.

The rose has now withered but still lies in the bottle by my window,

Along with the ‘Snickers’ wrapper I have treasured at least for until now,

Perhaps life does give you second chances,

To mend the broken bonds or to establish new ones,

But that feeling never fades out for it keeps burning alive.
