City Lights
City Lights
With a song on loop and wind in my hair, I was watching the sunset.
I’d love it if it was the beach, but I’m travelling in the train.
As it rides over a bridge, I witness the most beautiful sunset.
Not only because it looks breathtaking but because I can see the twinkling city lights against its backdrop.
For a city I never wanted to be in, Mumbai has shown the patience of a new lover.
I never understood why people call it the dream city.
I’d rather be dreaming in any other city.
But as the wind calmly weaves patience into my hair, there’s a ghost of a smile on my face.
In a city that has extremes worse than my mood, you can’t afford to slow down.
Not even in traffic. You have to pick, you can’t be a grey.
To fall in love with a city you need to be open to its love for you.
I may never fall in with Mumbai, but I find myself opening my arms just a little wider.
I’ll dream of your twinkling lights tonight love.
