Childhood

A time when we were tiny tots,

A time when we had simple thoughts,

A time when we spelt A, B, C,

A time we loved to climb a tree,

A time when paper boats we made,

In rainwater with them we played,

A time we laughed without a care,

A time when we were taught to share,

A time when Mother tied our shoe,

And Father took us to the circus or zoo,

A time when Granny told us stories,

Examinations were the only worries,

A time when we had sought,

To be a scientist or an astronaut,

A time when, to grow up we yearned,

And now we wish our childhood returned,

A time gone by, a time so sweet,

O childhood you were a lovely treat!
