Can you smile with utmost sincerity but not sarcastically,

When somebody hurts you with all the nonsensical acts,

So that he may try to learn from his mistakes?

Can you smile with your eyes filled with kindness,

When somebody is passing through a silent agony,

So that the everlasting agony may subside in him for a moment?

Can you smile with humility but not with the arrogant pride,

When somebody appreciates your good work and honors you,

So that he reciprocates your humility with the joy of honoring you?

Can you smile with enthusiasm and enjoyment

When you are one among many who are also enjoying a moment,

So that your smile may rekindle their joy every other moment?

Can you smile with no sign of hurt on your face

When you are immersed in a chain of miseries

So that your sympathizers may not get hurt within?

Can you smile like a child that is so innocent and charming

When your loving but blind mother offers you a cup of poison

So that she may find the moment of joy of quenching your thirst?

Can you smile like a flower that has blossomed on a tree

When your life finds fulfillment with no motive in yourself,

So that your smile may not diminish like the withering flower,

With its beauty and fragrance lasting for a few more moments?
