Bye, Take Care
Bye, Take Care
I oft go down the memory lane
Anxious to find the cause of my pain
I laughed and cried the day Tom was born
Because I found a son but lost his loving mom
The apple of my eye ever since he has been
I lived for him and mine were his dreams
So I worked an extra hour and missed a little more sleep
I had to take care of Tom's present and future needs
I dropped him to school with a cheerful "Have a nice day
I hope you enjoy your study and play "
And a little hand would go up in the air
"Dad I'll be fine..Bye..Take care"
And years passed by in the wink of an eye
Tom's school days were over and college days were nigh
And so oft I sat and ate dinner alone
For he'd ring me up to say"I'm with friends Dad. ..I'll be late home
When Tom was in college we had little time to spend
You see he had his assignments, his coachings and lots of friends
Then out of college, he prepared himself so well
In each exam, my boy excelled
Later one night he told me about his sweetheart
Said he was soon to be married before the new year starts
I too by now had diabetes and arthritis to attend
My retirement was due but I'd have money and contentment
And now let me move on to ten years thence
I was confined to my room,I knew not my offense
There was music and songs, food and friends
I waited patiently for this party to end
Oh I didn't tell you about my Tom's accomplishments
Soon he'll be going abroad so this party he extends
He has packed up my stuff says he's taking me to my friends
But I can feel it's a bluff because I know this new trend
Tom dropped me at this Old Age Home saying "have a nice time Dad "
He couldn't see my tears he seemed so glad
Then my old wrinkled hand I raised up in the air
"Son I'll be fine...Bye.....Take care".
