Love Your Heart

Love Your Heart

Once a heart was carelessly kept,

Where everyone saw how she felt.

She was dressed a bit too casually,

But she used to smile very happily.

Each time a stranger passed,

She stared at them abashed.

She always thought they would be,

The one her mistress longed to see.

But they came uncomfortably near,

And took whatever she held dear.

Soon the very casually dressed heart,

Was wearing tatters and storing hurt.

Her happy smile quietly faded away,

She felt she didn't need it anyway.

She cried into the lonely night,

Desperately waiting for her knight.

Then the life changing day came,

Which extinguished her shame.

It was not the shining knight,

But her mistress glowing bright.

Her tattered clothes were removed,

And in silk she was carefully adorned.

Her stored hurt slowly disappeared,

And in its place shining jewels appeared.

She still stands proudly and openly,

Gazing at the passers gracefully.

Attracting the pleasant crowds to her,

But never bending nor losing laughter.

She still believed in being loved,

But never again will she be fooled.

For to love, she will have her mistress,

Who will hold her in times of distress.
