Adversity Does Not Build Character, it Reveals it"

Adversity Does Not Build Character, it Reveals it"

A young girl loses her mother one day,

And is left with no resolution in sight,

Years later that girl decided to pave the way,

So that no one else would feel as she did that night.

While there were many routes she could've taken,

There was only one that she had in mind,

Due to a lack of justice all other options she'd forsaken,

Which proved to be a path of her own design.

Day in and out she would fight,

With the law in her hand,

Never once had that nightmare left her sight,

Yet she always appeared as if she was in command.

One day a woman was found lifeless and alone,

This detective came to where the crime occurred

Only to find that in chaos this woman's daughter was thrown,

And as the detective before the daughter had hoped she'd be assured

As the detective asked question upon question,

The young lady's anger from her grief rose,

For she'd learned that whoever had done this had struck again,

As her mother was not the 1st this person had disposed,

As this detective had tried to assure her of all that was being done,

This lady could not hear a word,

As she'd felt as if she'd been wronged,

She stated that she didn't believe this detective as far as she observed

Because she had seen the lack of genuine care,

And considering the fact that this person got away again,

Hearing what she perceived as excuses hadn't seemed fair,

Thus she wondered if this would come to an end.

This detective said that many scenarios would play throughout,

As she'd think to herself if only, if only,

The detective in an attempt to alleviate her pain and doubt,

Would repeatedly say she was not at fault and to take things slowly

As she swore that those to blame wouldn't get away,

For it wasn't a platitude or speech but rather a promise she stated

As she reflected back on that day,

Seeing how her role and that of an officer had traded

Upon discovering and capturing the one involved,

Something important to this lady this detective had restored,

The lady taking her treasure asked if this painful feeling could be resolved,

The detective looked at her and said something that struck a cord

"It won't... It won't,

But one day you'll find you don't mind carrying it with you,

The young lady cried as this struck the right note,

The young detective then shared that that's how she got through

This is what we tend to forget,

When things appear as bleak as could be,

Remember at those times when all you can do is fret,

One day you'll find that you'll be able to carry it and be free
