A Silver Ring

A Silver Ring

The heavens were streaked with blood,

The devils began to crow,

For at the end of every beginning,

The darkness starts to show.

The light that blinded all

To the shadows of the world,

Had been suddenly snuffed out,

And the Darkness slowly unfurled.

And as the dark dregs of humanity surfaced,

An angel floated by,

On her finger a silver ring,

Of innocence, purity and naivety.

The sight of something so untouched,

Soon drew them near

Her pure heart and mind,

Unable to fathom the horrors, she would soon fear.

The Darkness swallowed her up,

Squeezing and tugging and cold,

Until every drop of purity had been drained,

And an inky blackness stained her soul.

Sweet tunes of innocence,

She no longer heard,

For the Darkness had lifted her veil,

To the depravity of the world.

Eternity passed before the light returned,

Painting the skies in yellow and golden blooms,

But in the cheerful, sunny streets lay,

The angel’s tarnished tomb.

Her heart was now as hard and cold,

As the marble on which she lay,

The scars left on her were clearer still,

In the light of day.

And somewhere hidden, the monsters laugh,

Celebrating the happiness her abuse brings,

And as they pass the drinks around,

They play with a silver ring.
