A Love Sestina

A Love Sestina

2 mins
192

The sky is bright orange and red,

Drowning in this ocean is the sun.

Not long till settles in the night,

Which belongs to those who are mad.

Their hearts howl desire and love,

And outside echoes the sound of silence.

Sitting down now to hear this silence,

Eyes lined with kohl and lips red.

Lovers singing aubades, claiming their love,

Till they see the glowing, rising sun;

And till they drive themselves mad,

They shall serenade all night.

Sometimes, it is never ending, the night,

Dreadful is the silent silence.

A girl so young and mad,

Her face numb and hands are red.

Touched not by the radiance of the sun,

But kissed by the cruelty of love.

What it means to fall in love,

Is to go gentle into that good night.

Waiting for no one is the sun,

As it comes out of the shadows in silence.

Filled with tears, the eyes turn red,

Chirping are the birds mad.

It is sanity, in this deranged world, to be mad,

But it is still insanity to love.

The mystical muse, the moon, is blood red,

Gleams brightly this starry night.

They glimmer and twinkle in silence,

But disappear with the rays of the sun.

For sustenance, thanking thee, oh sun,

But for disturbing nocturnes, feeling mad.

Now nothing to break this silence,

Except listening to animals in love;

And making vows and chanting prayers at night,

As the petals fall off that solitary rose red.

Now resonates grim silence, broken only by the sun.

The river runs red, with blood of paramours mad;

But dies not love, even with the death of night.
