For Thy Beauty, I Shall Write This Song

For Thy Beauty, I Shall Write This Song

For thy beauty, I shall write this song,

Insurmountable, turn’st the roses shy:

This sonnet hither shan’t take too long,

Just as the doves in the sky be fain to cry!

I say, thou art the fairest of them all,

Yonder lilacs, daffodils and daisies bloom’d;

Thou mak’st mighty mountains bawl,

Bow’d the lavenders, wi’ thou twice perfum’d!

Thy radiance compell’d the sun to hide,

Forsooth sung the birds o’ elegance;

But alas! Fall doth come after pride,

Cometh to take away thine arrogance!

Now the heavens above weep for thee,

And I lament, on the coast, wi’ the sea.
