Narayan Or The Narayani Sena?

Narayan Or The Narayani Sena?

Before the war started in the Kurukshetra battlefield in Mahabharat (one of the two major epics of ancient India), both sides – the Kauravas and the Pandavas started out in all directions to meet various kings to solicit support. Incidentally, both Duryodhana (from Kauravas side) and Arjun (from Pandavas side) reached Dwarika, the kingdom of Shree Krishna together.

Lord Krishna put forward a condition in front of both – you can have either me on your side or my entire army, the Yadav army – known as the Narayani Sena. He also told both that he wouldn't take to any arms during the entire war. So when Krishna first asked Arjun what he wanted, much to Duryodhana's delight, he opted for the Lord- 'Narayan' and Duryodhana got the strong army-'the Narayani Sena'. We all know the outcome of the battle and even though there are many interpretations of the same, there are lessons to be learned from every word of the scripture.

In contemporary life, we encounter similar situations. Sometimes in life when things are not going our way we chase the wrong things and question the existence of everything and aimlessly seek answers in all directions. We are in a compulsive chase for instant gratification and quick-fix solutions. We don't realize that whatever is happening, is because of a higher power, the universe, the divine forces, or whatever adjective we may bestow upon it. For everything that happens to us, there must be some deep-rooted cause to it. Life is not a miser, existence always gives us abundantly, but we cannot receive it, because we don't feel we are worthy. Due to our inability to trust ourselves, our lack of patience in the fast-paced world, we settle for false definitions and delusional answers.

Whenever we are sailing in despondency, if we merely step in the shade of silence without understanding the logic of the mind and accept the situation, then perhaps we may get our small measure of peace. The mind is activity, and acceptance is inactivity. The mind is running and acceptance is sitting. The periphery is moving, the center is not moving. Here the Narayani Sena is "looking-out". It can in the form of chasing solutions, the dependence on psychotropic substances that we resort to in our daily lives, etc. Apparently, Narayani Sena may help us win a fight but it won't help us to win the battle. But if opt for Narayan that is "looking within", we will eventually have all our answers because when we look within, that tremendous beauty stops our thinking. For a moment the mind is in such awe, it forgets to think and the inner talk comes to a stop, a halt, and we are suddenly in.

When we stop seeking answers, life happens. In that acceptance, life starts caressing and flowing through us. And when life carries us, we become a part of the universe wherein we don't have to live in a past or a future because that is when life happens and it takes us to places further than our highest imagination…
