Mrs.Reva Gandhi was a professor in Degree College,Nahan,Himachal Pradesh. She is the mother of my very close friend and classmate Er.Sameer Gandhi, who was my neighbor also. I was in 9th standard, but I was not able to speak English. And today I must confess that sometimes I was not able to understand the concepts written in most of other books related to History, Geography & Civics etc. because all these books were written in English Language. English was my biggest fear at that time. Many times, my school organized various debate and declamation competitions, but I never participated. But yes, whenever my great classmates delivered speech, they made the atmosphere mesmerizing with their dynamic dressing sense, flow of voice and a bold interaction with the audience. Sitting in the audience I used to imagine that someday I will also be like them. I will also be honored for my speech and teachers will give gifts and presents to mee too. But it was just a dream, which I thought will never get fulfilled.

But there is a bright sunshine after every dark moment and one such moment came in my life also. It was my 30 days summer holiday after 9th standard examination. While I was planning to go out of station, Mrs.Rewa Gandhi offered me an opportunity of lifetime. She told my mother that during our holidays, she will teach me and Sameer how to improve our spoken English. Hearing this news, I realized, God really listens to honest request of needy people. I went to Sameer's house, met his mother and she told me the entire learning procedure that we were going to follow from the next day. Next day Mrs. Gandhi, me and Sameer started our learning journey.

The first thing which she taught both of us was enhancing vocabulary. She said, "You will have to read any English newspaper of your choice daily and tell me the latest happening every day in a proper way. If you do not understand any word, underline it, see its meaning in the dictionary and analyze how it is used in a sentence. Also try to analyze how different words having same spelling are used in a different manner in English language. And also note that how the words which are having different spellings, but same pronunciation, are actually used in a sentence.

Keep making yourself aware of these crucial aspects on English and I will clear all your doubts on daily basis along with elaborating all the aspects that are necessary to make you a confident speaker."

After that she conducted various English enhancement sessions and involved us in various types of specking activities on daily basis where we came to know the details of Spoken English in a broad way. She always emphasized this point that no language can be ever learnt properly without implementing it in practical life. After 30 days of honest teaching, Mrs.Gandhi developed my confidence in English Language. Now I was able to speak English fluently with anyone without any grammatical mistake.

With our classmates we used to speak Hindi only as we were habitual of using our own mother tong (Which we must do). I was eagerly waiting for the opportunity where I could speak in English, but I did not get it. But the fact of the life is whatever you learn thoroughly once in your life, it may not show its effect instantly, but later in your life it establishes your great reputation in society. 3 years after that, I joined Engineering course where one of our subjects was Communication Skills. After teaching us for 1 week, our professor thought about checking our basic communication skills as he wanted to know whether we actually deserve to be in an Engineering College or not. As we entered his lecture room, he started conduction Group Discussion. On that day, we were just 9 students present in the class. It is because rest of the students were form different places and they were looking for their accommodation and other necessary things in a new city.

He gave us the topic and told us to discuss it with each other. I saw some people getting nervous as it was impromptu, but not me. I confidently talked about the given topic, elaborated it perfectly and gave real life examples also to make everyone's understanding clear. And the best part was I spoke in English completely, without fumbling and without using any word in my own language. My professor Mr.Anil Bharadwaj felt so proud of me and appreciated me in front of entire class. All my classmates were praising me enough. Mr.Bharadwaj came to me and said, "Piyush, I am really proud of you. The way you spoke, I am sure that you will definitely become a great professional in future. Just keep the spirit intact."

I felt so proud that day. Later I kept participating in many speaking events and upgraded my personality more and more. And today is the day when I am myself working as a Professor in Communication Skills.

I must say this day has come in my life only because of one person and she is none other than Mrs.Reva Gandhi. I will never forget her divine influence in my student and professional life.
