The first time I said ‘I love you’

I believed it

Because what else could explain my nervousness 

Whenever you neared me? 

Obviously it wasn’t the fact 

That I hadn’t spoken to girls earlier..

The next time I said ‘I love you’ 

I believed it

Because what else could explain my joy

Whenever you messaged me?

Obviously it wasn’t the fact

That I was lonely..

The next time I said ‘I love you’

I believed it

Because what else could explain my anger

Whenever I saw you talking to another guy?

Obviously it wasn’t the fact 

That I was filled with insecurities..

The next time I said ‘I love you’

I believed it

Because what else could explain my want 

To spend every minute of every hour of every day with you?

Obviously it wasn’t the fact 

That I didn’t know to give myself company..

The last time I said ‘I love you’

I meant it

Not because you did anything 

Not because I felt something..

Make me nervous, make me possessive, 

Make me happy, make me sad 

Or don’t make me feel anything.. 

I will love you because I choose to

I will love you because you chose me

I will love you because we deserve it.
