I am a very great fan of cricket. Although I played only gully cricket but almost never missed a big match on tv. I have two sons and they also enjoyed watching cricket in their childhood.

My elder son is now 18 years old and has played nationals under 19 in basketball.

When he was 6-7 years old he used to play cricket in the street with other children and also enjoyed watching cricket match on tv. With time he got interested in basketball. His coach in school was also very good and in 2-3 years my son reached state level.

In our childhood days, we considered sports is just for enjoyment and a lot of sports may decrease your scores in studies. But now time has changed and lot of good players in school are choosing sports as their carrier.

My son was also very serious about his game and it had become his passion. He gave all his efforts and soon became a very good player and got selected in nationals.

He has to join the sports academy in Patiala for 3 months and also had to stay there in hostel.

When he came back after 3 months he told us about the life in academy. All the players had to wake up at 5 am. Then they had to do vigorous exercise in the form of running and jumping for two hours. At 8 am they had to take breakfast followed by three hours of continuous practice. In the evening also they had to practice again for 3-4 hours. There was no time for watching tv or other recreational activities.

At 9 pm they all had to sleep as all were too tired and had to wake up early.

I was very surprised to hear all this and came to know how much effort players put in to reach national and international level.

Watching cricket match we used to gossip about players as how they are paid in crores for international matches and IPL has now increased their earning to manifold.

But after hearing about all the efforts of a sportsman, I now respect the player like any other achiever in any other field.
