What Now? Readers Impatience
"It was the same routine every single night. Or at least for the last 78 nights. Drink warm milk with a teaspoon of sugar. Brush my teeth. Make sure the curtains are closed all the way to the very end (no gaps, thank you!). Moisturise. My pillow fluffed just the right amount. Set a redundant alarm for 6am. Close my eyes. Go to sleep.
All for what? I open my eyes to see it is 3:13am, every single night!
Every night at that moment, all I hear is silence. The silence is so loud, I barely hear my pounding heart. An eerie feeling creeps over me as I see through the (now open) curtains, the ice glazes over the windows from the sudden cold. A smell wafts through. One that is so familiar. I know what it is, I have definitely smelt it before, yet I cannot name it. All these days, I have never been able to remember it. I have tried day after day, night after night, still zilch. What now...
It took her long but finally, she got what the smell was. The smell of the new book she was longing for. Now everything makes sense. Ramya, an avid reader, was waiting for the third book of her favourite author's trilogy. The book was supposed to release 78 days ago. Ramya finished the second part of the book at 3:13 AM. Every 3:13 AM, the brain wakes up ready to read the next part. The delay and the anticipation just getting on her nerves. She did all in her power, wrote to the author, wrote to the publication. Even read fan fiction's, she felt underwhelmed. That night she decided to fill her own story to take her back to sleep.
The book ended when the Princess was taken, by the enemy king. The next book is how to save the princess. The princess was looking into the window of where she was kept and a cold ice glazes the window from the sudden cold.
The third book - by Ramya
The king calls on the kingdom and tells them whoever brings the princess safely get to marry her and be emperor of Bharat. Hearing this, three kings of friendly kingdoms send their princes to fight and bring the princess.
"
Before going ahead, something stuck in her thought. It is 2021 how can the king decide what the princess likes? But the story takes place many hundreds of year ago. The book cannot be far from today's reality. How can the author be disconnected from the world? Before she could decide what the author should think, the 6 AM alarm rings, and Ramya goes on with the day.
@3:13AM
The time hits 3:13 AM again the next day. Ramya started on her fantasy ride. This time she went back to read the second part for clues. The princess was kidnapped to punish her father. The princess did not fight back even though she was a trained warrior. Okay, here the author gave the reason she was caught off-guard when she was on her way to the mandir.
There was a reason why the author said the princess was trained in the art of war. She will fight her way out. I should trust my author to do the right thing. He was not going to disappoint me. All this not being able to sleep enough was getting on to me, thought Ramya.
@3:13AM next day
But what was taking the author time? Why can't the book come out already? Does it take that long to write? I know it takes time to write, but he gave a date, and we are waiting here. Why cannot he finish and publish it already? I know all this anticipation, and it will only last a day of reading. That was going to be still fine. But I want to get my hands on that book. When will the day come? I will write another mail to the author and wait for his reply.
@3:13AM next day
Let me open those curtains, the ice glazes over the windows from the sudden cold. Ramya opens that book and starts reading.
"The king calls on the kingdom and tells them whoever brings the princess safely get to marry her and be emperor of Bharat."
Ramya was on cloud nine. The author began the book exactly how she dreamt. But what about the princess warrior strengths. Well, when she finishes the book, she learns the princess was the one that comes to the rescue of her father.
