Unemployment or Unwillingness

I was working in Haridwar as corporate trainer for a reputed organization and suddenly due to my father's illness, I had to leave Haridwar and move to my home city in Uttar Pradesh. I took care of my father for 1 month and he was very fine now. As I was about to leave for Haridwar, my mom said, "Listen dear, your father is very week now. It is better you search for some job option here only." I agreed and started forwarding my CV online in various professional colleges for the position of assistant professor in Personality Development & English Speaking Skills. But I did not get any response from there. I had also made up my mind that I will not leave my parents as they were not well and get settled in my hometown.

As i was not getting call for interview, my friends and relatives started saying, "The kind of job you are looking for, you will never find it. such types of jobs are not possible." But I did not believe anyone of them as I was also an engineering student and I has also studied this subject in my engineering college. One day I made up y mind to get the job of my choice anyhow. I took photocopies of my CV's, sat in my car and went to all the professional colleges in my city. I met all the respective heads over there and forwarded my CV. I told them what for i have come. All of them took my initial introduction and then gave me a time for face-to-face interview. Fortunately I qualified the face-to-face round and got selected as assistant professor in that college. I was given the department of Training & Placement where I had to support Placement Officer in hiring activities.

My college was situated in an Industrial area with huge amount of industries. One day my boss said, "Piyush, we have been inviting many organizations from Delhi, Bangalore and Hydrabad, why don't we explore our own industrial area." I said,"Sir, nobody goes there. People want jobs in big cities." My boss said,"Piyush, as a members of Placement Team, our responsibility is industry interaction irrespective of the city. Come on, sit in my Car, we will visit right now." Me and my boss sat in his care and my boss drove fast towards the local industrial area. We visited all the industries over there and interacted with all the managers and owners. It was a fruitful journey and many industries promised to come to our college campus for campus placement drive.

While interacting with one of the owners of some industry in that area, my boss asked the manager,"Sir, please don't mind but I have a question? If there are so many industries in this area, who don't you people approach professional colleges of this city for conducting placement drives. You need freshers and we can surely give you intelligent students every year." Listening to my boss, the owner of the company started laughing. Me and my boss were shocked. Then the owner said, "Sir, if there is some industrial area in my city and I sincerely need a job, before applying online or before contacting any friend or relative, I will firstly visits the industrial area which is very near to my house. But sir, since the day I had erected this firm, nobody from the city came here to ask for job. I gave advertisements in newspapers and internet also but the local crowd of this place wants to work only in big cities. My firm started experiencing losses due to lack of manpower.

To cope up with this situation, I had to start my hiring office in Delhi. I started conducting walk-interviews in Delhi and I put a condition that since my office in here, whosoever gets selected, he/she will have to leave Delhi and join my office here. Sir, the people who really want to work and do something in their lives, they do not bother about location, condition, weather or atmosphere, they just work with full commitment and dedication. I got a huge crowd of dedicated people from Delhi and my business started running successfully. Today, 95% of my employees are from Delhi, Noida, Faridabad & Gurgaon. Only 5% from this city.

Sir, people often say that there is huge unemployment in India which is not true. There is no unemployment in India Sir. It is just unwillingness to work."

For few seconds I was looking at the face of that manager. Every single word of his was correct. The expression on his face were showing anger towards the local crowd of that city which was not even aware of the basic reality of life that job is the most important thing. With heavy heart me and my boss sat in our car and moved towards our college. It was a strange experience but an eye opening journey.
