Underwater

Poppy opened her eyes again. It was dark inside the cabin, and a lot of people were asleep. She flipped open the window again and gasped.

They were underwater. Fish zoomed past, so quickly she couldn't tell what kind they were. Light cast a blue tinge on Poppy, felt it cool her fingertip.

Someone started talking, so Poppy slid her headphones down to hear. It was the intercom. "Attention all students," it began, "we are quickly approaching deep waters. You may feel your ears pop. If you don't want to see the deep-sea monsters, please close your window and pay no attention to those who may have their own open."

Poppy quickly slid down the blinds on her window, as did most of the other kids. Living off shore, you grew up hearing stories about terrifying monsters in the deep. They were mostly told to warn children from going too far off land, but the idea was still creepy to Poppy.
