Unconditionally Yours!

Dear diary,

There has been a lot of introspection during the lockdown, so.

Today I spent time analyzing unconditional love between a mother and a child. Is there something called Unconditional love?

My neighbor Roma came to meet us today as her 2-year daughter wanted to see someone else's face. She was bored of seeing her parents face day in and day out, Roma thought. Roma said, " Baby, bring the doll to me". Her daughter refused and continued playing with her doll. Immediately Roma said, "She is becoming so naughty, does not listen to me at all. She keeps doing whatever she wants." She looked at her child and said," You come home, I will not play with you."

I asked Roma, "Do you think your daughter is taking you for granted?" Roma nodded her head and sadly said: "She used to be so obedient when she was younger. Don't know why she is becoming so naughty." She continued, "I love her so unconditionally. Whatever she wants I do for her, but she does not even listen to me."

I asked Roma," What is unconditional?" Roma was startled with that question and said, "A mother's love is unconditional. We sacrifice a lot for the child." I went on to explain to Roma, "I know there is a notion that mother's love is unconditional but I do not actually think it is. There is a very subtle ask always in the bargain. Sometimes it is obvious, other times it is not. For example, when you asked for the doll and she refused, what do you think happened there?" Roma looked at me with a blank expression. I replied," Unconsciously you wanted to show that your child is the sweetest and well disciplined. When she refused, you felt embarrassed and did not waste time to get back at her, right? Unconditional means fully accepting the person as is, not trying to get your agendas met through mending them. Hope my explanation made sense to you." I am not sure if I upset Roma but I think I managed to clear her misconception that she had about being there for her daughter unconditionally.

I am grateful for all the guidance I am receiving to know and experience unconditional love. I know this may not make sense but I believe, in the end, we are all looking to be happy and accepted by someone as is, why not start with yourself and extend that love to all around. I want to be able to tell all that, I am unconditionally yours!
