Rajiv Or Mona
Rajiv Or Mona
Dear diary,
I am wondering how important it is to have a passion. Can we live without a passion?
Rajiv lived in Pune with his parents. He was the only child. He lived as if he would never die. He did everything without a real liking for it. He studied because he was asked to by his parents. He was an above-average student. He learned swimming because his parents forced him into it. He took Science as his major subject as his parents wanted him to become an Engineer. He passed with a first-class as per his parents' direction.
It seemed like Rajiv did not have any wish or liking of his own. He went on to complete his Engineering and got placed in a Manufacturing firm in Bangalore with a good salary. At this juncture, his father fell seriously ill and Rajiv had no clue what to do as he was so used to only obeying orders. For the first time, he was jolted out of his slumber and had to make tough choices. He decided to bring his parents to Bangalore as he could not take off from work too often. After a lot of convincing and begging, his parents agreed to move, and what a nightmare it was!
Once the parents moved to Bangalore, they did not quite like the city. They w
ere skeptical about letting Rajiv remain single and hence started looking out for a bride for him. They found a traditional girl and got Rajiv married to her. Sona was a modern girl with traditional values. She loved to be at home, take care of his parents and also be independent. She was a writer who wrote under a secret pen name, Mona. Rajiv’s mother read all the stories written by Mona and was her huge fan.
Once Rajiv came to know by mistake that Sona was Mona as he happened to overhear her conversation with the publisher. He immediately confronted her. Sona requested him to keep the secret as she was happy in her world where she loved and respected all around her and also had a passion that kept her alive and thriving. From that day onwards, Rajiv’s respect for Sona grew by leaps and bounds. He started helping her in proofreading and also he sought her help in understanding what he was totally passionate about. Guess what?!
Rajiv gave up his job 2 years ago to become an interior designer and now he is successful in his job and is very happy in life too.
