Think Before You Donate

It was Wednesday, 2nd October, I checked the temperature in thermometer, the mercury level was at 100 F. I went outside to buy medicine for my mom from local medical store but due to Gandhi Jayanti almost all the shops were closed.

I took my car and started for JP Golden Hospital to buy medicine from the hospital medical store which is available 24/7/365. On a normal day in Delhi, people hesitate to hit the road using personal vehicles due to heavy traffic and prefer public transport, but that night there was no traffic.

I reached the hospital within 20 minutes, which otherwise would have taken around 50 minutes. I parked my car outside the main gate and asked security guard navigation to hospital medical store. I went to the counter and gave prescription to the shop owner. He went inside and started searching medicine. Two donation boxes kept on the counter caught my eye, one with the poster of Lord Ganesh and another of blind school students.

I was surprised to see that the donation box with Lord Ganesh poster was filled with 10,20 and 100 rupees note whereas the other box was having few 1 rupees coin. At that Instant I got an idea, the shop owner was still busy searching medicine at the extreme end of the shop, I looked around and carefully swapped the posters on the donation boxes.

At last after searching for 5 minutes the shop owner found the medicine and gave me a bill of 230 rupees, I gave him the 300 buck sand asked him a small blank paper, he returned the balance amount with a blank sheet. I dropped the change in the donation box, took a pen from the counter and wrote 4 words (Think Before You Donate) on the blank paper, kept it in front of donation boxes and walked away with a smile on my face.
