The Unfortunate Kid

While everybody was looking here and there, Jack stood there staring at the sparkling eyes of the newfound human baby wrapped in a blanket from head to toe on a November evening. The woods were covered in heavy mist just as their thoughts. "Let's take it to our home!" Bella shouted. But everyone knew that as soon as they take it to their home, new problems will arise. "But we cannot leave it here also. It's so tiny", there was a sense of request in his tone. "Okay. Fine. Let's take it to our home for the time being. We'll decide what to do with it later", Lucious, Jack's father said. So they decided to call it a day and returned home with the baby.

For Bella and Jack the baby turned out to be the most interesting of all things they have ever seen. "We must protect him". It was the first response from Bella after reaching home. "But we cannot keep him with us forever. You know that he is not one of our kind, right?"- Emma said to Bella. Although Bella was two years older than Jack, both of them were equally stubborn. So it became quite difficult for Lucious and Emma to make them understand the consequences of keeping the child with them.

After finding out that it was impossible to make Bella understand the situation, Lucious turned towards their four-year-old son Jack. "See Jack, Bella will never try to understand me. But you always make very mature decisions. So, first you listen to what I say properly and then decide what to do. Okay?" "Okay"- Jack replied. "Now listen. The problem is not the baby, but us. We are vampires. You know, on what things we survive. So, if we keep the baby with us will you be able to guarantee that none of us will ever attack him? You know how much we crave for human flesh and blood." Jack listened to his father's words very attentively.

The next few years passed in a spur of the moment. They also decided to keep a name for the baby. Jack came up with the name Vlad. But what was really bothering Emma and Lucious was that the secret of their identity was getting old along with the kid.

From the very beginning Vlad has been the most active and cheerful one in the family. There was something in him that made him lively and entertaining. Last summer Bella, Jack and Vlad turned twenty-two, twenty and sixteen respectively. It's not that they didn't have any differences among them, but they got along quite well with each other throughout the years.

Although everyone in the family hid the truth about their identity by putting their best effort. Sometimes Vlad felt really curious about the way they lived. Their house was in the woods. There was no one to be called as neighbours. But after being brought up in such an environment from the very beginning, it looked quite convincing for him to live. In fact, he was so used to the way of living that he didn't have any problem with it. But sometimes he felt so trapped in the house that all he wanted to do was run somewhere very far from the house. But nobody could realize his frustration.

One day, he was left with Emma and Jack at home. So, he decided to go outside the house for a short time. He saw Emma and Jack doing something in Emma's room. So, he decided to go alone. While walking in the woods he saw the brook at a long distance. The thin line between the brook and the forest was visible from there. There was still enough time for him to return home. Thus, he directed his steps towards the brook. It took him almost ten minutes to reach the brook. He sat on the grass and took a deep breath. He remembered the day when Bella and Jack took him to the brook. But they strictly told him not to cross the brook ever-"You can never do that; not under any circumstance." But only he knew how curious he was to know what was there on the other side.

So he decided to take a step forward that day and made his way through the brook. After reaching the other end he did not look back. After walking for a short while he followed the voices that he could hear at a short distance. He could see people from there. It made him feel like he was entering a whole new world.

That night he could neither eat nor sleep properly. His mind was too troubled to do any of those things. It was as if the woodcutter's voice was echoing in his mind. "They are vampires. Do you even know what a vampire is? They survive on living beings." When he first heard those words he laughed a lot. It all sounded so unreasonable.But something prevented him to tell these things to Jack and others. But he was feeling a kind of hatred towards all of them. The next few days he went to meet the people again without anyone's knowledge.To prove that they were vampires. The people decided to attack them and Vlad agreed to that. He did not tell anyone about it.

That night a huge a huge amount of people came to attack the family. Although Vlad knew about this, he acted very natural. It was almost midnight when he heard someone shouting in the next room. He felt terrified. Bella entered the room like a storm and shouted at Vlad, "I'll never forgive you !". And before he could say anything she was gone. Now,he came out of his room and found Jack lying on the floor covered in blood. He was breathing very heavily "Jack!" he shouted. " How can you do this to us ? " Vlad could see the teardrops in his eyes."I did not do anything Jack.I just wanted to know the truth",.

Vlad was crying by now." But you could have asked us directly. We never considered you as an outsider ", Jack seemed to have troubles in breathing by now. Vlad said, sobbing, "Forgive me Jack." But Jack was not alive anymore to forgive him.

Then someone came running to him and said," All are dead. We killed all of them." Now Vlad could no longer hold his tears. Suddenly, It started raining; as if the whole universe was crying along with him. The rain washed all the dirt away from everything but it could not wash away the guilt and pain from Vlad's heart.
