The Unforgettable Memory

It was a sunny afternoon. The cold chilly wind was blowing. As it was a Sunday we didn't have any class. Studying physics continuously for hours made me bored. I thought to have fun with my friends.

I was a boarder of Ram Krishna hall of residence of the University of North Bengal then. I went to the room of Rajat.

He was the topper of our batch . He was a humorous boy and a brilliant student. He was one of my best friends of all time. He is now working as a professor of physics in the department of physics of the University of North Bengal.

I hugged him and told him, "How much are you studying? Let's move to the room of Aahshanul Karim spend a few minutes in fun.

Karim is now working as an inspector of schools under the department of school education in West Bengal. He had good oratory and literary talents. He was very humorous too. we went to his room. But he was not there. His roommate told him that he went out with Ankan, another classmate of our department. Then Ankan could see us coming out of the room of Karim from the roof of the hostel and shouted at me, "Sukdev come here. We are here."

I, accompanied by Rajat started moving towards the roof of the Ramkrishna Hall of Residence. On the verandah of that floor, I met Sanjay Dhar, lin and thin boy but a very brilliant student in the physics department. He is now working as the senior teacher of physics at the prestigious Jenkins school, Coochbehar. He also accompanied me. we all went to the roof Of the RK hostel where we found handsome Subhashis along with Karim and Ankan.

Karim was then reciting the poem of Famous Bengali poet Nazrul Islam "Durgam Giri Kantar maru dustar parabar ,Langhite habe ratra nishithe Yatrira Husiyar." I was amazed at the recitation And asked him to explain its meaning In English as I was unable to understand Bengali clearly at that time. He explained it in such a manner that it touched my heart. I realised how relevant was that poem to ignite the heart of every Indian to fight with courage remaining alert.

I find the poem relevant at the present scenario of India reeling under the COID19 pandemic where there is large scale mismanagement of the situation.

Thereafter we made a lot of fun.

Rajat asked me to sing a song in Odia.Sanjay,Subhasis ,Ankan and Karim Insisted together to make me sing.

I had no other way.I sang the song"Re Rangabati ,Re Rangabati, Rangabati Rangabati Kanaka lata,Hasipade kahalo katha."They danced at the tune of that popular sambalpuri Odia song. That moment on the top of RK Hall of Residence is unforgettable for me.

When I recall that memory everythingbecomes live in my eyes.

I pray God to keep all of them safe amidst the CORONA pandemic while thinking of that unforgettable memories at Siliguri during my study of physics at the post-graduation level at the University of North Bengal.
