The Shortcut

Dinkar and Yash were fast friends. Both grew up and were studying together as well. Not only did they spend their maximum time in each other's company, but also shared their secrets. People around called them eternal friends.

Now it so happened that both were returning to their homes from their college, which was situated in the nearby town. It was a renowned engineering college and both of them were studying ETC (Electrical and Telecommunications ).

The college holidays had begun and both had decided to go back to their homes to spend some time with their families.

They rode their bikes(two more friends accompanied them) to their homes. Sambit and Nishant were sitting on the pillion sides of both bikes. They were dropped in their respective places, which were on the way to Dinkar and Yash's hometown. After that, the two of them continued their journey.

The weather began to change suddenly and it appeared like it would rain anytime soon. The sky was filled with dark clouds and a cold breeze began to flow. The birds started to return to their nests. It was certain that it was going to rain anytime now.

Yash knew about a shortcut. He had heard about it from a relative.

He suggested it to Dinkar. Initially, the latter refused as he did not want to take any risk. However, due to the changing weather, he reluctantly agreed..!

They took the shortcut, unaware of the grave mistake they were doing..!

It was quite dark due to the dark clouds in the sky.

Dinkar - Did we do the right thing by taking this shortcut..! The skies are dark and the atmosphere here seems very creepy..!

Yash - Do not worry Dinkar, your brother is with you. We would safely get back home within some time. Do not worry..!

Dinkar - I do not like shortcuts. And this entire stretch is seeming very creepy. Let's get out of it soon..!

Halfway through the shortcut, Yash felt as if someone was sitting on the back of his motorcycle..!

Yash - Dinkar, suddenly my bike is seeming heavier. It appears like there is someone sitting on the pillion side.

Dinkar - Yes ditto here..! My bike is also heavy. Sure, something is not right.

Yash - Dinkar, look behind my bike and tell me who is sitting behind me..!(both Yash and Dinkar were riding side-by-side).

Dinkar - Till now nothing has happened to us..! I think we should not show extra courage and should keep on moving. This place is not right. I am saying it from the beginning..!

Yash - I am going to look back and deal with it..! (Yash was more adventurous of the two from the beginning )

As soon as he turned to look back, he was attacked by a creepy creature sitting behind him. The creature had a monstrous face and heavy buildup and was wearing a long black dress. It seemed like coming straight out of a horror movie..!

The monster gave a hard blow to Yash, and the latter fell down with his bike.

Dinkar -(stopping his bike)Yash, are you alright? Get up, my friend. Do not worry, I am doing something..!

Dinkar showed courage and took out the iron rod (which he always put in his bike for emergencies) after immediately stopping his bike. Then he got down holding his weapon and started welding it like a pro..!

He gave two strong blows with his rod to the two monsters(another one was sitting behind Dinkar).

It seemed to work and the two monsters began to panic. Taking advantage of this situation, Dinkar released Yash from his bike and made him sit on the pillion side of his bike. He gave him the iron rod for holding and safeguarding. Then he sat in the front and quickly rode his bike away!

Yash - Behold my friend, nothing will happen..!keep that rod with you and hit the creepy creatures if they come to attack you..!

Dinkar - (groaning in pain) thanks for saving my life..! I should have heeded your advice and not insisted on taking this shortcut.

Yash - Okay.. okay..!Now be quiet and be vigilant. Just hit the monsters if they come from behind..!

After going some distance, when he felt that they were out of danger, he took Yash to a nearby hospital.

After getting first aid, both reached their homes.

Both their families looked worried and were just happy that they reached home safely..!

Luckily, Yash's leg did not break, though the bike fell on it. Yash had wounds however due to his fall.

 Later they got to know that the shortcut road which they had taken, was infested with monsters who used to sit on the back of two-wheelers; and whoever looked back, attacked them!

However, the monsters had only one weakness - iron. They feared anything that is made of iron.

Thus the iron rod of Dinkar saved their lives..!
