I still remember the night when my life took a different turn. It rained heavily that night. The people were running to reach their houses. I was sitting at the table of a café waiting for someone. Suddenly, a woman entered drenched in the rain though she looked fine if compared to her eyes full of tears. She came and sat in front of me.

I asked helping her with a tissue, “When are you going?”

“The flight is after four hours”, she replied in a low tone.

“Just try and ask your father or…….or rather convince him, if u could stay here?”, I replied.

“My whole family is shifting. It’s not possible for me to stay.” She replied.

“So we have to just end it here. The dream we had, the plans we made together, all the things have to be forgotten like they never existed, right?”, I asked.

Her quietness revealed her answer to me. She suddenly stood up and holded my hands tightly saying, “Promise me that wherever we would be, we will never forget each other. Promise me that you will never shed yours tears for me and will always be happy. Promise me!”

“I promise “, whispering slowly in her ears and then she went. I stood by the door watching her slowly getting mixed with the rain.

It’s been ten years since that night. The hope of her return changed my mind from being a writer to becoming the owner of the same café. Suddenly one day, a girl entered into the café looking for me with a piece of paper in her hand. I did not know her but her eyes reminded me of someone very close to my heart. After conversing and reading the note, my hands started trembling and my whole world with little hopes shattered into pieces, leaving the darkness for me.

The note read- I don’t know when you will read this, I will be alive or not. I just want to say that the moments we spent together were the golden moments of my life. I only had a last wish of meeting with you but now I think it will be left unfulfilled. In my deathbed, I always imagine you standing beside me with some funny faces to make me smile.

Good bye my love. I will never forget you and I will be always there with you in your heart and in the promise.
