The Key
The Key
His last wish
Epilogue
1 month later.
" Baba, dinner is ready", said Bimla. Satish was writing an article, he looked at her and opened his glasses, and kept them on the table. He smiled at her innocent face as his mind rushed through the events last month. Tears rolled down his eyes.. he was a little late. He had no family left. She was everything to him now. His adopted daughter... the symbol of his father.
When he bought Bimla home the first time his wife was astonished. She came to know everything later. "God saves the good", she told him. She took care of her very well and within a month she completely recovered. They were thinking of adopting her and his son too wanted her as a sister. Days have passed so soon.
He called her and softly kissed her on the forehead caressing her hair. " Baba.. umm. I wanted to talk to you", told Bimla. " Yes, my baby.. tell me what is it that you want to say", said Satish lovingly. " She took out her gold chain and gave it to him. He saw that it had a locket and opened it. He took out something and held it in his hand. " Wait.. another letter rolled inside a locket", he started reading it.
Dear Satish,
Congratulations, receiving this letter would mean you have accomplished your goal. You have proved to be my favorite child. I could not do anything for you. Since the time you went, I have been constantly missing you. Then Bimla was born .. Sarju was like a daughter to me. Her father was my friend.
She was a blessed child and often visited my house. I had thought that I would look up to every need of her like a grandfather. Then, those incidents started and I fell ill. I could not bear the poor girl being blamed for a mistake she had not committed. I gave her this letter in the locket otherwise people would take it from her. I told her to keep it safe. I had tried to contact you while I lived but Suresh never posted any letter I had sent to you. I found them in his room the night before I fell ill.
I had given her another letter and told her that if things go worse .. she must post it to you from the post office of the village. Anyway, so .. I had an account in a bank in Kolkata which belonged to your grandfather.. you can call Mr. Sunil Banerjee on the phone number mentioned in this letter who will guide you to recover the money. This is adequate for Bimla s education and also you can utilize it for your work. I hope you shall fulfill my last wish.
Lovingly,
Dad.
Satish hugged Bimla tight and started crying. Yes .. he had been put to the test. He could not save the people of his village cause nature s call cannot be denied but was happy that at least he reached on time. He was her savior and he knew that.
Thank you readers
This is my first long story .. hope you all will like it. The incidents and people talked about in this story are purely fictitious and have been described only to create suspense and a spooky environment. Any resemblance to anyone living or dead is purely coincidental. Smoking is injurious to health .. but has also been used to support the work. I do not advise any superstition at all and have only included its element as a plot. It is true though, often, crimes like this have been reported and read about in the newspapers. It is said that sin exists.. yet it is also true that. if you do wrong to someone. someday nature will take its revenge.
" As you sow .. so shall you reap!".
