The Hope

Being in love is a beautiful feeling, isn’t it? That one special person, your soulmate is always the one in your thoughts, you keep on seeing your pictures together. Just seeing that special person smile, even in pictures, if you can’t see them in person daily, is more than enough to make your day. You are reminded of all the precious and invaluable memories you have treasured together in your marvellous adventure, think about the time you have had unforgettable days like your first anniversary, first dance together all these experiences are permanently locked in your heart till your last breath.

 Now, what about one-sided love? Now this is somewhat a tricky position to be in, isn’t it? It is definitely an exciting feeling, feeling that way about a person, who was probably your best friend since the past decade or so. But, on the other hand, there is a small part inside you which yearns and strives for something more, in spite of knowing that the other person does not feel the same way about you. You two may be cities or maybe even countries apart, for that matter.

But there is that feeling inside of you which keeps on whispering “I bet I can make our relationship work” repeatedly. You might be against long-distance, but when it comes to that person, you simply forget everything and are willing to go any distance just so you can be together with them. Dating them is like a dream come true for you, all you want is for you both to be happy, together forever. Every time you watch any romantic sitcom or a movie or even listen to songs of Ed Sheeran, the first person that immediately pops into your mind is them.

The one. You have dreamt about many things with them like sipping hot coffee out on your balcony on a beautiful, rainy morning. Or you both cuddled up in bed, watching your favourite romantic movie which brings tears to your eyes or even going out on long drives in the evenings. Whenever you see other couples passing by in your college campus, you can’t stop picturing yourself being in their position, with your arm around your special person, playing with their hair. Few brilliant romantic scenarios indeed. The harsh truth is that all of these exist only in your mind. Sooner or later, you are snapped back to reality. The only thing which keeps on giving strength to a hopeless lover like the one mentioned here is HOPE.

You can’t make a person forcefully fall for you, that would be extremely frowned upon by society. There’s nothing else which you can do apart from being their best friend, talking to them as much as possible, making your friendship even deeper and keeping hope that, that one day will come, that damned special day on which they will confess their love for you. And how both of you will begin their new journey, a new adventure, facing the challenges provided by living together. It just becomes so easy for you to get completely lost in your soulmate. Their hobbies become yours and yours become theirs. Hope is the only rock which supports you throughout this time.

Usually, after a point of time, your friends would advise you to “move on” and tell you that “there’s someone better out there for you.” The funny thing here is that even today when you know that the person whom you have completely fallen for doesn’t feel the same way about you, you don’t feel like moving on. Even so much as an inkling of going out with another person seems laughable.

That’s just the testimony of the love which you have for that hopeful soulmate of yours, which is indeed a terrific feeling, knowing that it’s even possible to love someone to this extent. Some things in this life are surely worth waiting for, isn’t it? So what if its gonna take a slightly long time to happen? If you love someone truly, with the bottom of your heart, they will be a million times worth all those years of waiting and hoping. After all, everybody in this world deserves a happy ending, right? Name a better one (for all those hopeless lovers who are craving love) than growing old together with your soulmate, sitting in your porch happily decades from now, recalling all of the memories you created together, as your grandchildren run around in your garden?
