Chapter 1

Hi. Hello! Yes, you... the one reading this. Congratulations on finding my story. Excuse my excitement, but I can’t believe someone is actually reading this!

Anyhoo, let’s get to the story.

My name is Maylea Wildcrest. I am a direct descendant of the Wildcrest Pride pack. You are probably wondering why I say pack instead of family. My world is an exact copy of yours, except for one tiny difference. Supernatural creatures exist. I’m a werewolf. (Laughs awkwardly and looks away.)

There was a time where my world was just like yours. Humans make up 99% of the population. While the other 1% of supernatural beings hid away and were almost impossible to locate. Until 1946, when an unidentified flying object visited the Earth. This UFO, or the first of the Timeless Race, flew around undetected and abducted over 1000 people worldwide, which the humans at the time didn’t even notice. A month later, they were returned with one mindset, to spread the supernatural ability they were given to as many people as possible.

The Timeless Race made themselves known to distract the planet while the supernatural creatures spread out. The humans at the time did what they always do, panicked, and blew up the UFO that hovered in their atmosphere. Obviously, more ships of the Timeless Race arrived and destroyed the defenses Earth had against invaders.

Chaos spread as the supernaturals became known and took over as the dominant race. The Timeless Race then disappeared and left Earth to deal with its new inhabitants.

The original humans that the Timeless Race abducted rose up to take control. This was because they were the strongest and knew how to control their abilities. The most ancient werewolf was Wildcrest Pride, which was where my pack originated. I was born into the oldest and strongest pack. We are known to have large families and unbreakable connections.

Let me not bore you with the pack’s history, but instead start with some details of my Grandpa.

Morgan Wildcrest was one of the youngest werewolves to take over as Alpha. At the age of 15, his father, who was Alpha, was severely injured. A blood war for the title of the leading pack erupted; this was known as The Uprising. Alphas of other packs wanted to gain the power that Morgan’s father held. They had already killed his mother and most of the Wildcrest Pride pack. His father had begged Morgan to take his life and run to keep the Wildcrest Pride power safe. Morgan agreed, but once he became the new Alpha, he fought for the pack and killed every Alpha that wanted his power.

When you kill an Alpha, you gain their power, so Morgan was the strongest werewolf. He ended The Uprising. The Wildcrest Pride restored their rightful place as the leading pack, and Morgan was a righteous Alpha. In 1965, he married at 19. His wife, Aliya, was not his mate, but he loved her very much. They had 3 daughters, and in 1976, Aliya passed away during childbirth. Morgan was only 30 at the time.

In 1994, their second-born child, Julia (18), introduced her girlfriend to the pack. Which turned out to be Morgan’s mate. Julia left the pack and became a Rogue when her father married Deanne a year later. Then in 1995, my Dad was born. He was the first son of Morgan Wildcrest. You probably assume he’s next in line to become Alpha, but gender doesn’t matter. My Aunt Kayla will take over as the Alpha of Wildcrest Pride.

When I was born, I already had two older siblings. My eldest brother, Juan, and my older sister, Mica. Juan was 6 years old while Mica was 5.

2021 was a big year for the Wildcrest Pride family. My mom was poisoned while pregnant with me. The rival vampire clan in the town deceived a fairy to serve my mom wolfsbane tea. Luckily the pack was friends with a wizard who cast a spell to save her life. The wizard predicted I would live, but I would always be the smallest and weakest member of the pack. Yeah, I have the worst luck.

On the day of my arrival into the world, Grandpa Morgan knew it was his time to go. He blessed Aunt Kayla and died peacefully in his bed. The power of Alpha was transferred to her. Later that day, my mom transformed into her wolf form and gave birth to me.

Werewolves give birth to wolf pups, so they have to be in wolf form.

11 September 2021, 13:53 pm. I arrived.

At a tiny 1 kg, with light brown fur and silver eyes, I was the smallest pup in the pack. Standard werewolf pups are at least 2.5 kgs. The Wildcrest Pride pack was well known for their dark fur and golden eyes, so everyone assumed I was blind. Ha! I wasn’t.

As a werewolf, we stay as pups until around 6 months old, and our mother will remain in her wolf form for that entire 6 months. Then she will teach her pup how to transform into their human form. It took me 2 years to figure out how to change completely. What can I say? I’m a late bloomer.

In my human form, I had olive tanned skin with curly light brown hair. My silver eyes were still the same. I was short and petite, so even as a human, I was weak.

This isn’t the type of story where the weakest member of the pack rises up to become a powerful Alpha. I literally have no chance at being Alpha, which I prefer. All that responsibility and having to protect the entire pack... I’m glad I’ll never be Alpha.

This story is about how I have the absolute worst luck. Especially when it comes to love.

“Maylea! Where are you?” My Dad called and walked throughout the house.

“She's in her room," Mica replied. She was 19 already, with long blonde hair and striking golden eyes.

"Did your brother come home last night?" He asked her.

"I guess." She shrugged. "Juan thinks he's a big shot now that he's 20."

She wasn't wrong. Juan kept wanting to prove his worth to the pack. He trained every day and tired himself out on runs throughout the town with the Sentinel. He tried his best to help every day, even when it wasn't his place to help.

"Maylea! Can you come here, please?" My Dad yelled. I sighed and put down my blue pen. I ran out of my room and tripped down the stairs since I tried to step on every second one. With a yell, I tumbled down, and everyone in the house ran over to see if I was okay. I have 5 siblings now. Juan and Mica, you know of. Then there's James (12), Kelly (8), and baby Joshua (2).

Even Joshua walked over to me. How was he going to help?

"Maylea? Talk to me. Are you okay? What broke? How many fingers am I holding up? Don't die. Should I call the ambulance?" They all questioned while surrounding me.

"I'm fine. I just tripped." I smiled up at them.

"You know you bruise easily," James stated and pointed at the purple bruises on my arms and legs.

"Here, let me help you up, May." Kelly offered and held out her hand for me to take. As I stood up, a sharp pain shot from my ankle, and I cried out.

"Ouch!" I yelled. My Dad swooped me up into his arms and carried me to the couch in the lounge. He examined my ankle as everyone watched in anticipation to see if it was broken.

"Mica and James, please go fetch my portable x-ray machine from the medical room. Kelly, I need you to grab some ice and bandages. Joshua, you know Daddy's big brown bag with all his medicine in? Please bring it here, my baby." My Dad ordered, and they all sprung into action. Did I mention my Dad was a doctor? When I was born, my Dad decided to study medicine. He wanted to help me himself when I was injured or sick, which is constantly. He also said it saves him money from medical bills.

He actually loves what he does and called me his favorite patient. Dad doesn't work at a hospital, but instead, he opened his own private room to help take care of the pack. He’s the Salutary of the pack. Werewolves have excellent healing abilities, so they don't visit my Dad often, but it's a serious matter when someone does. Other supernatural creatures also come to him, but only if they are close friends of the pack.

Then there's me. When my mom was poisoned, she would have died if it wasn't for me. The wizard that helped her, Hansie, said that I had absorbed most of the wolfsbane. To this day, it still runs through my blood. That's why I can't heal myself properly; my bones are weak, I'm always sick, I didn't develop into a strong werewolf, and my mind is slower than the others. I'm not dumb; I do pretty decent in school. It's just when it comes to doing things werewolves can... like change form or howl or use telepathy... it's difficult. I'm pretty much a human that can shift into a wolf.

"Just calm down and go to your happy place. I can hear your heart racing." My Dad stated and softly placed my ankle on a pillow. I nodded and closed my eyes. I didn't even have excelled senses.

I inhaled... 1... 2... then exhaled on 3. I thought of the celebrity I had a crush on. Blaze Reed. He was this celebrity ghost that starred in many films. He had messy brown hair with these sea-green eyes. He had the cutest smile and was so frikken tall. A sexy 6.4 feet. Every teenage girl had a crush on him, including me. Blaze had this fantastic sense of humour and was so bizarre; it made him interesting. He joked around and did anything anyone dared him to. In this one behind-the-scenes video, he really wanted pancakes, but there was only cake on set. So, he put the cake into a pan and ate it like that.

He was childish and playful, which I loved. Then also matured and had this way of thinking about the world that was just so realistic. I loved listening to his voice which was the slightest hint of British mixed with Australian.

"Thank you." My Dad said as everyone returned with what he needed. I fell out of my happy place as everyone started talking around me. Dad set up the x-ray machine and turned it on.

"Okay, so there are no breaks. Just a few fractures." He remarked and showed me the X-rays. Yay, another injury to make me even weaker than I already am.

"Back into a cast, we go." My Dad sighed.

"Didn't May just get out of one? Like three days ago?" James asked.

"You know it's cause she saved mom's life." Mica snapped and shoved him.

"Hey! Don't shove people," Kelly yelled and shoved Mica back. The three of them started growling at each other.

"All of you, stop it. Go outside and sort it out. This poor house is already breaking down." Mom shouted as she walked into the lounge. She had just returned from a hunt and was covered in dirt.

"Mommy!" Joshua squealed and ran up to her. He wrapped his arms around her leg as everyone else also ran over to give her a hug, including Mica. Werewolves are big on family, so we don't have the whole personal space phase as teenagers.

"Hello, my flower." My mom greeted me and placed a kiss on my forehead. Dad gave her a quick kiss on the lips.

"Ewww!" Kelly and James shouted while Mica laughed at them.

"You wouldn't guess who I saw running after us on the hunt." My mom sarcastically stated.

"Juan!" Joshua replied.

"I would have never guessed," Mica said and rolled her eyes.

"Yup. Always trying to prove his place. Zander, please tell your son that he is good enough." My mom ordered my Dad.

"Celeste, I have told our son that thousands of times." My Dad answered. Mom rolled her eyes then walked off to the kitchen; everyone else followed after her so they could listen to details about the hunt.

"Dad, why does Juan want to prove that he's good at everything?" I asked.

"I guess it's because the pack is already so big. We have many powerful wolves, so Juan doesn't just want to be another pack member. He wants Alpha Kayla to notice him. I guess Juan just wants her approval, and your Aunt is the type of person to make him work for it." He shrugged.

"Hmmm... Do you think Juan wants to become Alpha?"

"It could be a possibility. The Alpha chooses who becomes the next Alpha, so Juan might want to prove himself for that reason."

"Imagine my brother as Alpha. He would make a good Alpha, don't you think?"

"Yes, he would, but he might constantly want more. If he works this hard now to prove himself, it might make him a greedy Alpha. Don't worry about that, though. Kayla is only 50 now; she has time to decide who is next in line." He smiled.

In most packs, the Alpha is the werewolf who was strong enough to defeat the previous Alpha. Usually, a son kills his father to become Alpha.

In our pack, we don't turn against the family. The Alpha will choose who is next in line, and anyone who wants to try to fight the Alpha will be chased out of the pack. We chose a much more peaceful way. So far, Aunt Kayla's second-born son (my cousin) is to become the next Alpha. He already had 2 children.

Since Grandpa Morgan's mate was still young, I'm an aunt to 12 werewolves. Some who are even older than me. Even Joshua is already an uncle, and he's 2 years old.

"Thanks again, Dad." I smiled, and he helped me sit up.

"Luckily, it's Saturday, so you can relax. You know how this goes, no shifting until 2 weeks have passed." He stated, and I nodded. He placed a pair of crutches near the couch and handed me the television remote.

"The family is going out on a run to see how Joshua does on his first hunt. At least, you can relax with some peace and quiet." Dad added and messed up my hair. I forced a smile, and he walked away.

I hated being alone. I hated being left behind. Now because of this stupid ankle, I couldn't run with the pack. Flippen vampires. They were just so evil that it was easy to hate them. No wonder werewolves and vampires are always enemies. Don't get me started on their revolting smell. Disgusting.

I huffed and gripped tighter on the remote in my hand. I listened to the excited yells of the family as they ran off into the forest and shifted into their werewolf form. We shifted into massive wolves; well, everyone else did. I pretty much was an average-sized wolf. There was nothing I could do about it; by now, I just wished I accepted it.

I sighed and switched on the TV. I played a video of Blaze Reed and felt better. I bet Blaze would like me for who I am. He's the type who accepts everyone just the way they are.
