Oppenheimer: Part 1

Note: This story is based on Project Manhattan. It’s dedicated to Robert Oppenheimer, the father of atomic science.

A new city was created in April 1943. 15,000 people are going to come here. When Oppenheimer received America’s project, he was given the order to create his own city. The person who is entering the city should be well-known to you. But no one should know each other’s names. They shouldn’t know Oppenheimer’s name. Give yourself another name.

Everyone who comes to this city comes with a fake name. Everyone who comes to this city comes with a fake address. Children are born there. On the date of birth of those children, the city’s name, Los Alamos, was not given. PO Box 1663 was their only address.

The history starts in the 1930s. We are going straight to Germany. In 1930, Nazi troops brought Germany under their control. When the news came that Jews were being persecuted, the Jews wanted to get out of Germany. They wanted to go to different places and countries.

A group of people in the 1930s were standing in one place. Many educated people, scientists, teachers, and intelligent people were ready to flee from Germany. This is a place called Ellis Island. In this place called Ellis Island, many people are standing by the demand.

Whether they can somehow enter New Mexico Have you studied? Have you bought a ticket? Come in. What do you do? Don’t come as an ordinary person. Science is given precedence. This particular point is the reason for America’s development.

In the 1930s, when the Jews started to migrate to America, the only desire they had was to defeat Germany. They wanted to defeat Adolf Hitler, no matter what happened. No matter how much money is spent, Even if they lost their lives, they wanted to defeat Hitler.

In 1933, Albert Einstein came out like this. He had a great reputation in Germany. In 1922, he won the Nobel Prize. But he had to leave Germany. Because Einstein was also a Jew, In 1933, Albert Einstein left Germany. After leaving, he tried to come to America. He was a scientist who won the Nobel Prize. He was very intelligent, and his path was very smooth.

Einstein came directly to Ellis Island. Not only that, in 1939, he wrote a letter. He was a scientist from Hungary. Two researchers from Hungary wrote this letter. Do you know what was written in that letter?

Germany is making a big bomb with uranium. Not just one face. It can destroy many faces. They are making a nuclear bomb. If this atom bomb is used in America, not even grass will grow. You can stockpile uranium. They will bring as much uranium as they can. Uranium is the most important material for the upcoming war. In 1939, this letter was written in the name of Albert Einstein.

It was sent to Roosevelt, who was the President of America. There was another Hungarian scientist in that letter. His name was Leo Szilard. Leo Szilard was the one who typed this letter. Albert Einstein’s signature was written in that letter. But there was no signature in that letter. Albert Einstein’s name and his address were written in that letter.

Two Hungarian scientists and Albert Einstein were against Leo Szilard’s letter. Do you know what happened after this letter was sent to America?

Roosevelt, the president of America, did not even respect that letter as toilet paper. But he took such a decision in the first meeting of Roosevelt. After breakfast, Roosevelt held the next meeting.

At that time, Roosevelt realised something was wrong. He realised that he had to prepare the destruction before he could prepare the weapon. Roosevelt was confused. Who wrote this letter? It was Einstein.

Who was against this letter? It was Leo Szilard and two Hungarian scientists. Did any other scientists escape from Germany like this? Roosevelt had such questions on his mind. At that time, another scientist was named. He was Enrico Femi. He did not come to America.

He stayed in Italy. Does this mean that there is going to be a big revolution in weapons in Italy and Britain? Or are they also doing research there? Roosevelt had such doubts. He wanted America to be ahead of this.

On August 2, 1939, Roosevelt received a letter from Albert Einstein. On October 19, 1939, a committee was formed by Roosevelt. It was the advisory committee on uranium. The Advisory Committee on Uranium was formed on October 21, 1939. There were many civilians and military personnel on this committee. They were provoking destruction with weapons using uranium. We should also prepare such weapons using uranium. We should participate in such efforts.

The decision was made to call as many scientists as possible. The advisory committee on uranium added another thing to this decision. They wanted to stock 4 tonnes of graphite and 50 tonnes of uranium oxide. They wanted to start their research from there.

Similarly, they were stocking up. Even though such a committee was formed in 1939, things were happening faster in Britain. Two years passed by. Many scientists were struggling to separate uranium. To study the minerals in uranium and find a method to use them, they were struggling to prepare such weapons.

Only then was a radiation laboratory formed. In 1941, the University of California, Berkeley, conducted an experiment. Before conducting the experiment, they sent a report called the MOD report to the United States.

In that report, Britain said, “Yes, we can use uranium. We can separate them. We can make weapons using uranium-235. But there is a need for more research.” Britain and the United States wanted to overcome this challenge. They formed a new committee. It is called the S-1 committee.

The S-1 committee started the next research. While the research was going on, a task was initiated to make a bomb using uranium. We should remember the names of three scientists. Harold Urey, Ernest Lawrence, and Compton

Ernest Lawrence is a close friend of Oppenheimer. Ernest Lawrence called Oppenheimer and asked him to work on the project. But this was not enough. Arthur Compton called Oppenheimer. In June 1942, he assigned him to work on the project.

Even though Oppenheimer worked with political parties, Compton accepted his offer. This was the only excuse he had. He wanted well-experienced people to work on the project. The task was to create a breakthrough in fast neutron research.

When Oppenheimer accepted the assignment, he said that there are two types of physics. One is theoretical physics, and the other is experimental physics. Oppenheimer was the best in theoretical physics. John H. Manley wanted well-experienced people in experimental physics. If we look at Oppenheimer’s life, he was from a rich Jewish family. His father was a textile businessman. It had been years since he came from Germany. He studied here and got a doctorate. But he used to fight with many students while studying.

A famous teacher told Oppenheimer to take experimental physics instead of theoretical physics. That teacher had an advanced level of thinking. Oppenheimer didn’t like what he said. Instead of fighting with the teacher, he kept an apple on his desk. The teacher found out that the apple was poisoned.

Oppenheimer sliced the apple, put poison in it, and kept it on the desk. After the teacher found out, there was a big inquiry against Oppenheimer. He was in a situation where he could be arrested. But he escaped because of his family’s influence.

He was given the decision to see a psychiatrist for six months. Oppenheimer had a negative life structure. Oppenheimer is now the chief of Project Manhattan. The name of the apartment where they lived was Manhattan. America was the name of the secret project.

Oppenheimer was asked to create a team for him. The city was Los Alamos. How did Oppenheimer create Project Manhattan? They brought a woman to protect a library. But there was no library in Los Alamos. How did Oppenheimer create such a library? After the success of Project Manhattan in Los Angeles, America arrested Oppenheimer.
