Mission 323
Mission 323
Mason's legs were moving non-stop. He was running fast down the desolate street. A bright smile was drawn on his face when he turned for a second to see the scene behind him. Dozens of amorphous creatures were chasing him. The vestiges of humanity that might be left in them, were almost imperceptible. Mason was one of the few survivors of that apocalypse and he enjoyed it. He had always been an adrenaline and adventure addict, so going into the most dangerous places to look for provisions was a delight for him. He enjoyed running with those monsters chasing him because he knew very well that they were not going to catch him. He thought he was invincible.
He quickened his pace and laughed as soon as he saw the enormous wall that divided the city. He adjusted the special gloves that covered his hands. He and his brother had developed several pieces of equipment that helped them survive in that world. Limited technology was no match for their creativity. He was a genius, but his brother was even more so. He had created those high-friction gloves that allowed him to climb that protection wall over 100 meters high, without the need to use any other equipment. Well, he should actually use other implements for greater safety, but Mason loved risk, he liked to live on the edge of danger, so he always forgot all the rules that his brother constantly reminded him of.
He kept running until he was close enough to the wall to make a jump. The momentum allowed him to rise high enough to save a couple of meters and as soon as his body hit the reinforced concrete structure, he exerted all his strength with his hands on the surface to ensure that the gloves didn't fail. A small sound like a magic zip was heard. Mason smiled. Those gloves were the best invention his brother had created. He began to climb quickly while alternating his gaze between the orange sky above him and the hell of creatures he was leaving behind. His backpack swung a little between the movements, he had forgotten to tighten it well. This time he had less time to escape, but it didn't matter, he had accomplished his mission. He carried in it everything his brother had asked him for. He tried not to climb too fast to avoid his backpack loosening even more and losing it, so he climbed calmly.
When he finally found himself at the top of the wall, he squatted down to look below. From such a height, it was difficult to distinguish any detail, but he smiled at the thought of the mass of creatures that would probably still be below, crashing against the wall, trying to get through it. He laughed at the image in his head. No matter what the people in the small village where he lived with his brother thought, there was no one better than him for these missions. He sighed and continued on his way, they were waiting for him.
