Lucky Charm

It’s 1 in the noon he was at his desk “did you find it?” his colleague asked. “No I think I lost it,” he said with a tensed face. “Meeting starts in 20 mins” his colleague panicked. “I kept the presentation on the desktop, now I couldn’t find it,” he said looking at the laptop screen. “Did you check all the folders” “I did” and he started checking all the folders again.

He prepared the presentation two days ago. He discussed with all his team members, corrected all the slides finally and kept it ready for the meeting. But at the moment he couldn’t find it. He was very much tensed and his mobile started vibrating. “Hello” “I am busy right now I will call you later” he didn’t even say hi to her. “Hello listen” her voice was sweet. “Tell me” “did you eat?” she asked him. “Yeah bye now” “wait….” She insisted. “Baby tell me fast I have a meeting now” he yelled at her. “What’s wrong? You said we will go for a movie” “are you……bye” he was irritated by listening to her words and cut the phone. He was in a critical situation in the office and she was talking about a movie.

He kept his left hand on his head and closed his eyes. His mobile vibrated again. It’s a voice message from his girl friend. He opened the message. “All the best for your meeting” there was little anger in her voice. He stared at her photo for 2 secs, kept the phone aside and suddenly opened his mail. He got up and called his colleague. “Let’s go for meeting” “presentation,” his colleague asked him slowly. “It’s in my mail” “I know it will be somewhere,” his colleague said with a smile and both went to the meeting.

After meeting he called his girlfriend “hello” “what? Why did you call me? Don’t ……” “Sorry” he interrupted her. “You yelled at me and cut my phone,” she said slowly. “I am sorry baby, I was in a meeting” he explained her. “Don’t talk to me” “baby ice cream” “chocolate ice cream” she said immediately. “done, then evening at 7” “ok” he could sense the smile in her voice and he was very much relieved.

He and his girlfriend both met in college. She was his junior. She completed her graduation this year but she is still a child. She is always lucky for him. Even in the campus interview, her luck favored him. He didn’t get selected first, he came out of the hall with a sad and disappointing face. “What happened?” she asked him.

He didn’t answer her but he just nodded his head. “That’s ok,” she said with a small smile. “That’s not ok everyone got selected,” he said harshly. “Don’t worry you will get selected” she said by holding his hand. “No this was the final round” “will you buy me chocolate ice cream after the interview,” she asked him playing with his hand and smiled. “Are you crazy…..” his friend called him and said “they are calling you for the interview” “what….” he was surprised and went inside.

After 15 mins he came out and she was standing there with a smile. He looked at her “I got selected” he was shocked and surprised. Everyone was surprised, they never called a candidate 2^nd time. He always knew that she was lucky to him, but from that day he believed that she is his lucky charm.

Evening when he entered the coffee shop she waved at him with a big bright smile. That smile always makes him happy and relaxed. He went and hugged her. “You are late” she complained. “Traffic, shall I order your chocolate ice cream” “I already did” she winked. Her face, smile, her childish behavior he loves everything about her. From day one she was his lucky charm and will be forever.
