Launcelot And The Old Dragon

Launcelot was an intelligent knight in the kingdom of Noresta. He was very young and wise. He was a knight only because of his brilliant mind. He was very famous in his kingdom and was known to defeat his enemies without a fight.

Once, as he was taking a walk with his friendly horse, Frankel, he saw a dark cave accompanied by bats. There was also an old castle, at a distance. Strange voices came from the castle. As Launcelot saw this he could hardly believe his eyes of seeing an old castle with a cave.

Launcelot bravely went to the castle and said: " is anybody here"? he asked. Suddenly he got a reply of " help, we have been locked here for many years by the dragon, please help".

Launcelot was scared and came out of the castle and saw a huge dragon coming towards him from the cave.

Launcelot understood that the dragon must have locked the people who are in the castle. The dragon thought him as a brave person as he went inside the castle without any fear. The dragon said" I will kill you! Prepare to fight dwarf! " Launcelot said " Wait a moment. Well, it is clear that you don't know who I am. I am the guardian of the Great Crystal Sword"! Launcelot continued " you must have heard it has killed hundreds of ogres and dragons and if I unsheathe it, it will fly straight into your neck and kill you".

The dragon had never heard of such a sword, but this frightened him. Launcelot said," the sword is at the other side of the world on a snow-covered mountain, I will go now and bring it". He continues " Oh ! I don't understand why I tell my plans in front of others". The dragon immediately flew away in search of the sword.

Launcelot made sure that the dragon was far away so he went to the castle and freed the people. They all told him that they were locked for many years by the dragon and were also from Noresta. They all went together to their house and the people thanked Launcelot for making them free. That's how Launcelot defeats his enemies without fighting.
