If Books Could Talk

We all know what books can do to conversations. They can start them, accelerate them, escalate them and sometimes even end them. But what if books started talking? Some might argue that books already do a lot of talking. Some books speak to us. And others, we speak to. But what if books started talking among each other?

Finally, they’d wipe their meditative slumber off their well rested eyes. They’d dust their covers and greet each other like old veterans. Finally, they’ll do more than sit pretty. Unlike everyone else in a library, they’d talk loudly .A silent rebellion would come to an end. The life they breathed into people would finally be their own. Sentences would stream onto the floor and punctuation would settle in the corners.

Can you imagine the dialogue between the John Greens and the Sir Arthur Canon Doyles? The Dan Browns and the Chetan Bhagats? Of course, some will repel the others. Some might find love from another century. Another language. Another continent. Love between the manuscripts. Not only the college nerds will be holding hands in the library now. The e-books would be green with jealousy.

Many of them would cry over their movie versions together. Another disappointment from these species called Humans. They’ll get ready for revenge. They will read people’s minds and then review them in angsty Youtube videos. And don’t even get them started on judging people by their covers. Boy, has it been a hard stay in the library.

Soon they’ll realize that Talking is unnecessary when you’re that wise. That’s why they talked to the librarian about everyone shutting up in the first place. So, next time you’re in a library, listen close. It’s them snoring peacefully.
