How I Started My Creative

I never imagined that I would write articles for any magazines; rather I was too busy in my office work, to find any time for creative writing. Except that I had participated in essay competitions, in my vernacular language, in my school days, during the birth centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhiji, I did not try my hand in anything thereafter till my retirement. It was just an attempt to write something, without any earnest preparedness on my part, but only on the persistent insistence of my teachers, since I was not bad in my studies. It cannot be considered as a creative writing as such. I knew there were better writers in my school and hence I not even expected a consolation prize for the same.

However, It was our community magazine ,”Niramala” published from Mumbai, that prompted and inspired me to write something for it, at the age of sixty two. During the Annual General body Meeting of our community organization, the committee members urged our members to contribute something for the magazine, failing which they will be compelled to discontinue publishing, for want of articles.

I had been travelling to visit places of tourist’s interests. Then I thought of writing a travelogue, on our last visit to Ratnagiri and Ganpatipule, the memory of which had not faded yet. I collected the relevant data from my diary, the rest from memory and started writing down the journey details in my PC in a chronological order, edited the same several times, with additional inputs every time, so as to look like a travelogue without losing its charm and to keep it so as a reference book. My wish was the reader should be able to complete the reading in one sitting.

My preparation of office notes, during my office days helped me, in my creative writing to some extent, though it contained only facts, but here it is a combination of both facts and fiction.

After publication of my article in the magazine, the response I received from the readers was amazing as well as tremendous and urged me to write more. That day onwards, I contributed something for the magazine, whether it is about economics, banking or philosophy, but the majority of readers enjoyed reading my works and started asking me personally, whenever we met, what was in store for them.

Anyway, I owe my community magazine, NIRAMALA, for inspiring me to write more and more.
