Growing Up

When I was little, I dreamed of fairies and dragons, Kings and Queens loving their princesses, All my dreams came true in the lap of my mother, When I was teenager, I dreamed of prince charming on a white horse, Of fairytale love and stolen kisses, All my dreams shattered in the arms of a stranger, When I was an adult, I dreamed of being filthy rich, I let go of foolish desire to be loved, For money was what ruled the world, All my dreams crumbled when betrayed by people I loved, When I grew old, I dreamed of a happy family, I knocked off the selfishness in me, Discerning that love is what prevailed, Yet I couldn't live the dream, For family I had built was too hollow to hold any love within.
