Gold Digger

Plot: 

Independent film-maker and social activist Namrata decides to re-marry at the age of 57. She had been a single mother, and had brought up her son Debashish Bagchi pretty well. Debashish is a well-mannered, kind-hearted scholar, currently working as an Assistant Professor in a college. He has some powers that makes him special, but he has always been advised to conceal those.

When Namrata decides to re-marry at the age of 57, to someone who is hardly thirty, Debashish supports her to everyone’s surprise. He even fights with his extended family for his mother’s happiness. However, he restrained himself from being a part of the wedding ceremony because deep-down he was not ready to see his mother getting married. So, he went on a trip with his friends.

Here, he learned that their college senior, who was an all-rounder apart from being a college topper, is now living a scandalous life as most of his girlfriends are rich, affluent women of wealthy families, and all are elder to him. Debashish’s friend mocked him calling him a gold digger but Debashish felt bad because during college days this senior of his helped him a lot as in college Debashish was shy and introvert. Thus, people cornered him. But this senior of his was there for him to cheer him up. He silently prayed for him, and enjoyed the trip, unknown of the upcoming storm in his life.

After he returned from the trip his mother invited him for dinner to officially introduce his husband to his son. The meeting gave Debashish the biggest shock of his life. His college senior, the Gold Digger, Anshuman Chaturvedi is his mother’s second husband!

Debashish whole world turned upside down and the college senior whom he once respected and loved the most became his enemy. But is he really his enemy or something else is the truth? Does Debashish has any blood-relation with Namrata? Does Debashish’s power is the reason Anshuman married his mother?

Born in a lower-middle class family, how does Namrata inherit so much property? Why Anshuman had always been there for Debashish? What happened to Debashish’s father? Is Debashish now in danger? The story tries to answer all these questions.

Character Sketch

Namrata: A 57-year-old independent filmmaker and a social activist. Genuinely love her son a lot! Polite, down-to-earth and a kind-hearted woman but somewhere she has a past that never let her sleep at night. Very protective of her son and can do anything for him. Her son is her only friend, yet she has never disclosed her deepest sorrow to him. Why?

Anshuman: Thirty-year old illustrator working for a well-established publishing house. Although, he earns enough from his job yet he had earned the gold digger title. People say he is too ambitious and loves none but money. Anshuman doesn’t care society and people. He has married Namrata and people say that he had married her for money. But only he knows why he had married her, and he will not let others know the truth. Why?

Debashish: A twenty-eight-year old brilliant scholar and a very kind man at heart. Loves his mother a lot, his only friend. Although, in college Anshuman was his best friend cum elder brother, after college he never saw him. Debashish is a lonely soul because since his childhood he knew one thing and that is he has some special power. He can switch on the TV without touching the remote, or open the door without going near it. He controls both electronic gadgets and even animal with his minds. But his mother always told him to conceal his powers from the world and not to practice them. Later, in college Anshuman gave him the similar advice and after hearing this truth became extremely protective and caring towards him. However, when Anshuman marries Debashish’s mother Debashish started believing the rumor and started hating him. He tries to explain to his mother that Anshuman is not right for her and has married her for money. But deep down does he believe this?

Mrittika: She is Debashish’s cousin sister. Two-years older than him and is a psychiatrist, she is trying her best to make her cousin believe that Anshuman is a nice guy and he should not pay heed to rumors. But while doing so is she falling in love with Anshuman?

Jia: She is Mrittika’s patient. She doesn’t remember anything about her life, her name, parent’s name, where she had lived and all. She once came in front of Debashish’s car and since then has become his and Mrittika’s responsibility. Although, biologically she is twenty-eight-years old but mentally she is as young as an eight-year-old girl.
