Games For Money- Chapter 1
Listening skills
How could I possibly lose again? I looked up to see Malhaar grinning at me. Fine. I reached into my bag and pulled out a letter.
“Here you go”, I said and roughly passed her the letter.
She was about to open it when a loud, echoing shout came from the other side of the room.
“You there”, barked Gandhi, our English teacher. Not Mahatma Gandhi if that’s what you’re thinking. No, this is Jasmine Gandhi, the total opposite of a jasmine flower. She is the total worst teacher in the world. “you two want to go out?”
After the tiring business of apologizing to her, we sat down.
“Today we will do your listening skills”, she said and marched over to her desk. “you will get two sheets of paper. On the first one you will fill in your details and jot down the essence of what I will soon read out. On the second printed sheet…..”
When she finally finished her speech, which I would have provided if I had managed to stay awake whilst she was giving it, we got to work.
She began like this “the great wall of China is the world’s….”
Here’s what I remember writing.
The Great Wall of China...
Immaculate shoes
Well-coiffed hair
Ironed shirt
Looks like old Gandhi’s trying to impress someone.
How I wish I had payed attention to what she was saying. Little did I know what was going to befall me.
I didn’t know that I was about to descend into the world of crime. I didn’t know I was about to fall for the lure of money.
