Do Dowry System Still Exists?

It's a fact that we are all residing in the world of modernization where most superstitious beliefs are considered hypothetical. But the people there still follow the customs and rituals of their ancestors in remote areas as well as in metro cities too. To equalize their living standards with the society they do believe and follow some illegal customs in this modern world.

Dowry is the payment such as money or property or stuff given to the groom by the bride's family during the marriage ceremony so that bride doesn't face any financial crisis during their new livelihood.

It doesn't mean that the groom's family should force the bride for money every time in the form of dowry whenever needed. If the groom is not financially stable and unable to take responsibility for his wife, then what is the purpose of marriage. Dowry should be considered as a gift and that much money or property should be given how much they can afford.

Do you know the amount of money spent by the boys' parents to set their careers and studies is equal to the amount of money spent by the girls' parents on their careers? These days, a boy's criteria are qualified and a working lady for marriage then how does dowry get mandatory if a working lady is chosen for marriage?

This is the reason why some of society, deny bringing daughters into the world. You can't imagine how much stress a daughter's parents take to arrange money for dowry as well as for her career. If you can't afford the expenses of your wife, then you don't deserve to get married.

Due to this dowry system,19 woman loses their life every day due to physical abuse in India. In India, dowry deaths are high compared to other countries. Dowry deaths include the murder of women or forced to do suicide.

Seriously are we humans?

I am sorry to say there is no comparison between humans and animals in these days.

instead of being highly qualified, we pretend to be illiterate and violent animals.

According to me, Dowry is not a gift, it's a bribe or deal between two families used to stabilise the financial status of the groom's family.

Let me tell you a true story based on a bride who lost her life due to dowry.

Riya was happily married to Jay and was living with Jay's family. Jay's younger brother Rahul likes and respects Riya immensely. Jay's elder sister Sonam along with her husband Rajiv was also staying with Jay's family as Rajiv's family have abandoned Sonam as she was unable to give the child to their family. Sonam has tried all sorts of treatments for 7 years but still, she couldn't conceive a baby. Sonam gets jealous when she gets news that Riya conceived a baby. Jay was too arrogant and dominant in nature. He doesn't bother Riya's concerns during her delivery months. Rahul was taking proper care of his sister-in-law and loved to help Riya whenever she needed. For him, Riya is like his mother.

The happiest day finally knocked on their door, Riya got admitted to the hospital for delivery. The doctor informed us that Riya is in critical condition, and it is difficult to save the lives of both mother and baby. Jay insisted to save the child but Rahul insisted to save Riya first. Riya faced a heart failure situation while delivering but anyhow doctor managed to save both Riya and her child. The doctor informed Jay not to plan for a second baby as Riya have a heart problem since her childhood.

On the arrival of a baby boy, everybody danced in ecstasy but nobody was aware that very soon a gloomy environment gonna surround them.

Rahul loves his nephew immensely and stays for long hours and plays with his nephew. Sonam gets jealous of Riya because of the baby. Sonam's mother tried to convince her mother-in-law to accept Sonam but had no luck.

One day, Sonam was going through newspapers and got to know about surrogacy. She immediately discussed it with her husband and her mother. But unfortunately, Jay denied it as Surrogacy costs 6 -7 lakhs rupees and they can't afford such a huge amount of money.

Then they made a tricky plan to take that much money from Riya's family.

If Riya's family is not ready to pay that much amount then they will forcibly convince to do surrogacy for Sonam to save that much money.

Jay discussed the same thing with Riya but denied doing surrogacy due to health issues. If she tries to carry a baby for the second time then she will lose her life.

Jay forced Riya to call her brother and arrange 6 lakhs rupees as Riya couldn't give part of the dowry money demanded during her marriage.

When she asked her brother for money, her brother denied that in such a short span of time, it's not possible for him to arrange such a big amount for them.

Jay forcibly convinced Riya to surrogacy for Sonam's happiness and demanded divorce if she denies surrogacy. Rahul tried to convince Riya not to take such a step which is fatal. Riya agreed to surrogacy to save her marriage.

Before surrogacy, Riya has to go through certain tests for conceiving a healthy baby.

The doctor denied taking a surrogacy request from Riya as her life is in a risky state. Riya pacified the doctor and informed them that she is ready to go surrogacy. Jay's family rejoiced in happiness as Sonam gonna become a mother. Every member of the family took proper care of Riya but they were not allowing Riya's brother to meet with her. She was kept away from going to her mother's place as well.

Suddenly in the mid of the conceiving journey, she suffered from labour pain. They immediately admitted her to the hospital. Doctors tried their best to keep both mother and child alive but they failed as Riya suffered from heart failure and the pre-matured baby died inside her womb of Riya.

Jay's family tried to hide the real story behind her death and announced that she lost her life due to health issues.

At the funeral, suddenly Riya's brother reached with police officers and informed them that his sister got murdered by Jay's family. But nobody believed his words as there was no evidence.

One day Rahul was playing with his nephew, he was searching for Riya's photo. He came across a video which was captured in the hospital. To give justice to Riya, he submitted that video to the police. With the help of that evidence, police took action against Jay and his family for doing murder of Riya.

Please stop this dowry system to save such precious lives of these innocent women.

Campaigns should be set up to spread awareness of the disastrous effect of the dowry systems in remote areas. Every groom's parents should learn to stabilize the finances by themselves instead of depending on the money of the bride. If their son is not financially stabilized then they should keep a hold on to his marriage for a certain time. Every bride's family should remember that when you search groom, never agree on whatever they demand marriage.No daughter's born ugly, everyone is beautiful in their own way. Dowry is nothing but the cost of your daughter's life. So, think twice before you speak.
