Chapter- 1

(Bad news)

"Dinner's Served."

Said my boyfriend, Arjun Rathi.

I smiled, between us both the cook was always Arjun. I was literally banned from the kitchen, since I raised the smoke alarm.

Food consisted of noodles and some chicken gravy.

Arjun sat down opposite me. He weirdly enough looked tense. We ate silently which was pretty normal, we were both often buried in our own trains of thought, but something about the silence this time was unnerving.

Out of the corner of my eye I caught Arjun open his mouth, but no word came out, he shut it once more.

I said looking up from my noodles,

"Why so tensed?"

He said, a brave attempt to look brave on his face.

"Frederick has told me that the board plans on getting rid of me."

I frowned. Arjun could be getting fired from his job, not exactly the happiest news someone can exchange over the dinning table.

I knew a person from my agency, Aadvik. His uncle ran this huge software engineering company called "ease tech."

And, with Arjun's record he could get into the company.

I bought that up,

"I have a colleague, whose uncle is Meghaliya Pawar. I can put in a word from your side."

Arjun smiled gratefully.

We resumed our meal in silence. I could see that even after my reassurance, Arjun was still tense.

I finished off the noodles and picked my bowl up , as I was about to go and wash my vessel, Arjun said,

"Here, let me do it."

He felt guilty, for what? I had no clue. I let him take my bowl.

I heard the water in the kitchen sink start. I walked towards our staircase. If Arjun lost his job, we would actually be pretty much fine.

We both earned quite a bit. He was the managing director of all banks in his company airFinace.

And I was a detective. I mean I naturally got paid a lot for risking my life.

We had this nice 2 floor apartment in Chicago. We both took turns paying the rent around here.

I climbed up the staircase into our bedroom. That's when I got the call.

Chapter- 2

(Dead cop)

The voice on the other end was frantic. She rushed,

"Zimbai is dead!"

"What?!?!"

"Can you get here now?"

Said a colleague, Robin Jones.

"Yes, be there in 20."

"Good!"

She said.

Zimbai was a new recruit in our agency, bright fellow, black bushy hair, dark skin, black eyes. Had loads of potential. Was one of the most attentive people I knew. He worked under the autopsy head.

I pulled my jacket of the hangar and walked down, I rushed into the kitchen and found Arjun staring at his phone with his mouth agape,

"What happened?"

He just gave me this one sad look that told exactly what had happened, he was fired.

"Oh gosh "

He said,

"I'm going to sleep."

I said,

"Arjun, someone killed a detective at the agency. I have to be there."

His face dropped even more he said,

"Yeah fine."

I did not get mad at him something bad had happened to him and I understood his sorrow.

But I also had no time for that. I picked the keys off the table. I walked out zipping my brown colour jacket. I inserted my key into my motorbike.

I sat down, pulled the ignition chain and zoomed off.

I Paid no head to my surroundings. My attention should be fixed only on zimbai.

Whiten 15 minutes I had my bike parked in the parking lot of my agency and I was waiting for the elevator.

Our agency was situated in this huge glass building, which I thought was pretty impractical but there was also the fact that half of the 40 floor building belonged to H&M which was weird because, our Agency's name was Hive Mind.

At last the elevator decided to show up, inside it was my dear old boss. Robin Jones.

I could see that she was trying to keep her nerves together, and she was successfully doing so.

She said,

"What took you so long?"

"Family issues."

I said .

I entered the elevator and asked her,

"Why did you come down the elevator?"

She responded

" I was going to take a walk in the park, Dumb ass."

I did an imitation of wiping fake tears,

"How Insulting!"

She rolled her eyes. She was not very good at rolling her eyes.

The elevator then stopped at floor 37. We both got out.

The office was frankly not even half as frantic as I had expected them to be.

Robin said reading my face,

"The fish market is at the back."

I walked towards the back of the office where true to Robin's words was the most frantic I had ever seen my office.

I walked towards our techie, Ana. And asked her,

" Where did they find the body?"

She responded,

"DNA crew has gone to see it, they found the body at Central park stuffed behind a bunch of roses."

Okay I thought to myself. It could be a revenge game Or Zimbai found out about something and somebody had to get rid of witnesses.

the possibilities were endless.

the endless possibilities narrowed down a bit when Ana showed me the photo.

the body had alot of parts bent at an unnatural angle. Blood coated his shirt by the looks of it a bullet hole. Straight through his heart, his hands looked like they were hanging by his socket hole. And his legs were mangled.

but that was not the worst thing. The worse one was that on this forehead which hung from his broken neck, the word,

"Pawn" was carved, using a knife.

A shiver went down my spine. I had a feeling that more of us were going to die, from the looks of it our killer was a perfectionist.

Was my life on the line? There was always a possibility that this killer was just messing with us, that he or she killed one cop, but had no plans for killing anymore.

But I had a gut feeling the killer would come for more.
