Avenger

It was the year 2270. The human race was at the acme of technological development but politically, socially and morally it was on nadir. Technology and its advantages were limited to those who could afford it. The technology was the mean of dominating those who had no access to technology. Being technically powerful, if one could afford it, was the way of life. Almost every rich and powerful person was a cyborg. And the situation became worse over the time and the time came when these cyborgs had forced the ordinary humans to live in special areas away from the cities of cyborgs. These areas were called settlements. And these settlements were often attacked by the extremists who believe in the complete annihilation of commoners.

Earth was under the realm of Cyborgs. They were at the highest rank living in magnificent cities surrounded by the high walls. Ordinary humans who were not cyborg or who couldn't afford to be cyborgs had to take permission from the Government to enter these cities. It was the age of cyborgcene.

Settlement H44, homed to about a million human, was one of the largest settlements.

It was a fine and cold morning of the settlement H44. Peoples of the settlement were out of their homes to the streets, going to their workplaces, working at the workshop, markets and fields. Children were playing in the streets. Military androids were patrolling in the streets. All of sudden, Sirens began to screams and the panic-stricken people began to rush to the bunkers and the underground hiding places.

Hearing the sound of sirens, Zigma, who was patrolling in the streets of the settlement along with the military androids and humanoid robots, muttered in low voice with anger, “Once more the settlement is going to be attacked by those extremists.”

“This time they can use chemical, biological and even nuclear weapons. So you had better run for nearest bunker or underground hiding place, Hurry up,” an android said to him.

He forgot to bring his gas mask with him. He was afraid of any chemical or biological weapon. So he followed the advice and rushed to the nearest bunker which was about five hundred meters away from him. The sirens were still screaming. He felt shame on the speed at which he was running. On the way to bunker, he saw an orphan child whose parents were killed in the last attack of extremists. He knew him very well. His inner conscious didn’t allow him to leave that child alone. He picked the child up in his lap and began to run again. He reached the bunker in the nick of time. The hatch of the bunker was about to close. He jumped into the bunker and the hatch closed automatically. A moment after closing the hatch, he heard the sounds of explosions outside. The child looked at him with gratitude and said, “Thanks.” He gave the child a broad smile. The bunker was overcrowded and was full of noises.

He tried to get connected to home on his communication pad. But unfortunately, he couldn’t get connected. The system had already been jammed. “What the hell is going on?” he shouted with anger.

Now worry about his family began to engulf him. His home was about two kilometers away from the bunker. He tried once again to get connected but all types of communication systems had been broken down. “The extremists had already been hacked all the communication systems,” a man who was standing next to him spoke to him with anger.

Zigma knew very well that they always attack with full preparation and planning.

He didn’t know how long he had to hide in the bunker. It came into his mind that extremists could break the bunker by laser. A fear was gripping him slowly. He looked at the orphan child. He still was standing next to him. The child was shivering with the fear. Zigma held his hand. The faint noises of explosions were still coming.

After about two hours, the hatch was opened by an android. The android shouted loudly that the attack was over and it was now safe to come out of the bunker. He took the breath of relief and picking the child in his lap, he rushed to the hatch. Coming out of the bunker he rushed to his home along with that child. On the way home, they saw hundreds of dead bodies and broken androids in the streets. Drones were hovering in the sky. The child took leave from him at the spot where Zigma had picked him. From here he hired a taxi. The taxi left him in the sector where his home was. He got shocked to see clouds of smoke and flames rising high in the sky. He rushed to the street where his house was located. The street was on fire. Some military androids stopped him from entering the street. He was watching his burning house but he was unable to do anything. No chance for anybody to come out of that fiercely burning street.

He desperately searched his wife and daughter for the next two days. And third day he got a bad news from the authority. He lost his conscious seeing dead bodies of his family members.

It took him months to come out of the shock and the grieve. Now he was out for revenge.

Zigma was once a famous cyborg working at the law enforcement agency of the government. He was equally famous for both the cyborg society and the commoners. Ten years ago when the extremist movement began, Zigma was one of those who criticized the methods and philosophy of the extremist movement. Since then he was the target of the extremists. Gradually the extremist movement spread it roots deep in the entire cyborg society and then it went violent and began to attack the ordinary people. When the situation began to be out of control, government took military action against the movement. Zigma decided to take part in this military action.

Zigma fought bravely against the extremists. He helped the government in capturing and killing of several cyborgs. The leader of the extremists was once surrounded by Zigma in a raid. The name of the leader was Mindas. Mindas was an extremely cruel and powerful cyborg. He wanted to remove the commoners from the earth and for this purpose he had begun a violent movement against the commoners. He was involved in several massacres of commoners. Soon both of them were face to face and began a duel between them. In that dual Mindas using his powers controlled Zigma's mind and made him disable to fight. Zigma got seriously injured and had to hospitalize. He remained in a coma for months. When he came out of the comma, he found himself stripped of all his powers. All the technological components which gave him strength and stamina and made him a cyborg had been removed from his body. Later it was found that the supporters of Mindas colluded with the staff of the hospital against him and made him a commoner. A microchip was implanted inside his body to monitor his location and activities. He applied to the authority for granting him permission to be a cyborg again but his plea was turned down by authority. As per him the reason behind it was the conspiracy against him. His request for removing the microchip from his body was also rejected.

Killing of his family by the extremist ignited the flames of revenge in him. He left the settlement and headed to the settlement I-47 which was around one thousand miles away. I-47 was one of a few settlements where the extremists have minimum influence. Here the commoners were very unite snd were of rebellious nature. Here Zigma met with a doctor who was ready to remove the chip from his body in lieu of handsome fees and charges. After removing chip he felt emancipated from the slavery of cyborg.

Zigma had some relatives and friends in I-47. One of them was Sebastian who a member of his team when he was fighting against Mindas. After that fight, Sebastian left the settlement h44 and began to live in I-44. He was a bitter enemy of the extremists. Zigma met him and told all that was happened to him. Sebastian was currently a member of a small army which was devoted to protecting the I-44 against the extremists. He managed to get Zigma joined in the army. Soon he became popular with the people of the settlement.

Zigma knew very well what was needed to kill Mindas. He couldn't overcome as a ordinary man. Somehow he had to be cyborg again. He discussed it with Sebastian. Sebastian responded him "you have to find a way other than being a cyborg again." He remained silent for a while and then said, "I have a better idea to overcome these extremists."

Zigma looked at him with curiosity. Sebastian said, "A group of our technicians is trying to develop systems which will be able to intrude into cyborg's system and make them crippled. And they are likely to build such a system within a few days." He paused for a few moments and then said, "And we have a few laser weapons to use against them."

Meantime the extremists were playing havoc in the settlement H-44. One of Zigma's friends in H-44 sent him a massage saying that the Mindas was forming a team of cyborgs to attack settlement I-47.

The message adds fuel to fire. Zigma and Sebastian decided to go to the settlement H-44 along with some armed commoners and humanoids. Apart from this small army, they have a newly developed system with them. Zigma had some doubts about this newly developed system.

They intruded the settlement H-44 in disguised and in the small groups in the darkness of nights. Zigma's friends and well wishers were ready to hide him and his army in their homes. Zigmas now began his mission. He deployed spies on extremists. They had not to wait for more for the first encounter with extremists. That night Zigma and his some men were on alert. All of a sudden sirens began to scream. It was a drone attack from extremists. Within a few seconds, dozens of drones were hovering and dropping bombs on the settlement. Zigma and his comrades were ready to retaliate. They began firing at drones. Zigma locked four drones at a time and fired his laser gun. All of the four drones destroyed in the sky and the burning debris scattered in the sky. The rest of the drones moved up high in the sky and then began to fire laser down at Zigma and his men. The first round of the firing missed the Zigma but successfully killed some of his comrades. Zigma was lucky. Deaths of his comrades driven Zigma to craziness and he began indiscriminate firing of lasers at the drones. This firing shot down some drones. The attack lasted for about an hour and it took the lives of dozens of soldiers of Zigma. Several drones were destroyed by Zigma. Several houses were demolished by the drones.

People of the settlement H-44 had never retaliated with such intensity. The retaliation was taken seriously by both the government and the extremists. Here Sebastian along with his some soldiers began guerilla attack on the extremists.

"Kill Zigma at any cost," was Mindas reaction when he heard about the deeds of Zigma and his followers. This time Mindas didn't want to leave Zigma alive. His first encounter with Zigma was still fresh in his memory. How hard it was for him to escape Zigma. He wondered how Zigma became so powerful in a short period of time that he once again posed a challenge before me. Zigma and Mindas both were seeking opportunities against each other. Mindas' spies' and killers were seeking Zigma desperately. One day when Zigma along with his three comrades were going to neighboring settlement, an invisible killer android opened fire at him. Getting a shot on the leg, Zigma fell down on the earth. The comrades surrounded him and opened fire in the direction from where the shot had come. They tore apart that killer android into pieces. Zigma had to spend several days in the treatment of the injuries made by bullet shots. After that incident, Zigma increased his security and began to live in an underground suite of two rooms.

Sebastian was trying to find out the den of Mindas. He deployed the spies and spy drones to keep an eye over the movements of some extremists. After a lot of maneuvers he found out the den of Mindas. Meantime the spies informed Zigma about the extremists' plan of stealing nukes and using them against the commoners. It was the matter of great concern for Zigma.

"We have to make a final attack on them before they could get nuke and use against us," was Zigma's opinion on the issue. But it was not easy to attack the den of Mindas. He was heavily armed and had some connections and supporters in the government. Only a single wrong step could spoil the game. They worked for the several days on the each and every detail of the plan to attack the Mindas.

After elaborated planning and preparation, they began their mission along with some selected soldiers to destroy Mindas. They wore special high tech suits which made them invisible and undetectable by heat detecting sensors. Doing so was necessary because around the den there was a network of security cameras, sensors, drones, and humanoids which were used to detect and kill the intruders. They sneaked into the city where the den was situated. The den was within a dense forest. With utmost care, they enter the jungle. They move inch by inch making no noise. It took them several hours to reach the den. The den was a big building covered by the barbed wire fencing. They began to surround the den. In spite of taking each step carefully, they were detected and all of a sudden dozens of the androids opened firing at them through the windows of the den.

That time Mindas was inside the den. The attack was unexpected to him. Mindas never even thought that Zigma could reach and attack his den. Outside the den Zigma and his men was fighting fiercely. There were heavy casualties from both sides.

All of sudden Mindas came out of the den and began firing of laser beams towards Zigma. At that time Zigma was hiding in dense thickets. The shots missed the target. Seeing this Sebastian remarked, "he is weak at shooting." And began to retaliate him by firing a laser shot at him. By this time Zigma too began firing laser shots at Mindas. Mindas retreated a bit but soon recovered himself and again began firing. Sebastian fired a cluster of smoke bombs. Within seconds clouds of dense smoke began to spread. It got impossible for Mindas to look through the dense smokes. Taking advantage of this dense smoke Zigma and his men began moving forward. Getting furious Mindas began indiscriminate firing towards the moving army of Zigma. Sebastian who was in lead got a laser shot and within seconds he chared to death. Zigma was helpless in this matter. He could not to do anything to save his friend. Death of Sebastian filled Zigma with a strong notion of taking avenge. He signaled his men for the last final assault. He took out the device and activated it. The device began to search cyborgs around the area and within a minute found out several extremist cyborgs around the area. One of them was Mindas. Zigma without wasting a moment activated the device.

And within a few seconds, the device fired many special bullets which after piercing Mindas' body, injected thousands of nano robots into his body. These nano robots began to search and damage the chips into his body. He began to writhe with pain and all of his inbuilt weaponry began to break down. His inbuilt laser stopped working. The same happened with his inbuilt cameras which were inbuilt with his eyes to improve the visibility of eyes. Now his eyes were ordinary eyes. He was losing his strength, agility, and stamina gradually and was going to be an ordinary human being. Now he was not able to use his inbuilt laser gun. At last, he lost all his characteristics of cyborg and fell down. So far Zigma and his Men had been reached the spot where Mindas was lying on the earth. He was now powerless and writhing with pain. Zigma went close to him and said to him, "Recognize me. Who am I?" Mindas looked at him. All that he had once done to Zigma was before his eyes. He remained silent. Zigma said to him, "years ago once you conspired to snatch my cyborg powers from me. You spread terror and killed thousands of commoners. You were well equipped with technology. Now it is time to settle the old score,” saying so he triggered gun towards Mindas. Mindas died at the spot. After killing Mindas, Zigma and Sebastian started a mission to kill the extremists and within some months they got success to some extent in mitigating the terror of extremists among commoners.
