And the Unexpected Happened

There were four of them. Although their day-long mission was coming to an end, they were far from tired. But they were hungry. They had crossed the border into the enemy territory and caused enough damage to the enemy. They had to wait for an opportune time to cross back into their own territory.

They espied a cottage a few hundred meters away and walked towards that. If not food, they will get some rest there. When they entered the cottage, they were surprised to find that it had an occupant, an old man. The men pounced upon him, without giving him a chance to defend himself or say anything.

Fortunately for the old man, one of them asked him, “Do you have anything to eat?” The old man indicated towards the open kitchen, where ingredients for cooking food were stored. This earned him a reprieve from thrashing.

Their leader said, “Ok. We might spare your life if you cook food for us.”

He asked the men to stop and asked the old man to start cooking. They sat on the small dining table and kept an eye on the old man. They kept their arms in their hands, ready to take action against any threat.

Soon the food was ready. The old man served the food at the table with trembling hands. The men ate food and relaxed a bit. While eating food, they had kept their weapons aside, but accessible in case of need.

They were quietly discussing among themselves their plans to sneak back into their own country when they heard the voice coming from behind.

They looked behind and saw that the old man had got hold of one of their revolvers. Before they had time to react, the bullets found their mark on their bodies.

Now there were four dead terrorists and a very scared old man in the cottage. He had, immediately after shooting the terrorists, thrown away the revolver as if it were a snake.

It was how the border police found the cottage when they rushed in after hearing the bullet sounds.
