While My Earth Burns

While My Earth Burns

Where were you when

the trees were being chopped?

Where were you when

the ice caps were melting?

Where were you when

the forests were on fire?

Where were you when

the seas were warming?

Where were you when

the water levels were dropping?

Where were you when

the oceans were turning into acid?

Where were you when

wind and water gushed into our homes?

Where were you when

a whole species was slowly disappearing?

Where were you when

the summers scorched us?

Where were you when

the winters froze us to death?

Where were you when

the air got smokier?

Where are you now,

while all of this is still happening?

Cozy inside the comfort of your home

in blissful ignorance, I believe.

You sit there while my earth burns,

and someday yours will too.
