Oh you fleeting , flying dreams that grace

My mind in your happy time,

In vain I try to grasp your feverish tail;

You escape out of my open hands!

Where to look for you oh faerie-

Your invisible cloak keeping you away

from my lingering gazes.

Are you hidden in the bushes of the wild,

Or in the curious eyes of a precocious child?

In fire and its raging flanks?

Or in the water that flows within your banks?

Caved your way into a silent hole?

Or lit your way in a violent soul?

Did you disappear under a fading grove

Or veiled yourself in a man lost of love?

Singing in the shady glen

Or dancing with the Adam's ale?

Are those the gems on you that glitter

In the dead of the night?

Or the swish of your delicate robe

That calms the heat of the afternoon light?

What are you, oh etherial angel -

A eternal solution or an ethereal enigma?

Are you taking shelter in a buttercup-bell,

Against the beating of the rain?

Or are you wheezing through the thoughts

And shedding tears of a mother's pain?

Found in the confident stride of a lion

Or in the human pride of a million?

Do the music of the bird's hold your name

Or are you whispering with the philandering asphodels?

An archetype of a reverent fay

That flies higher up every downcast day?

Why is that you are a devil and a Jenovah?

A glass of poison or a shot of Madeira?

The only constancy you have,

Is your constant spark

And occupation in every mind.

So many places to look for you,

Oh fae, your dwellings may be many.

But I know that one day,

I will see your reflection in me.
