'Twas But A Dream
'Twas But A Dream
Lullabies playing
softly
Whimsical notes
Are as a chariot
Drifting away into
a slumber
As I awaken unto my dream
I'm surrounded by familiar walls
This is my room_
Have I not fallen asleep?
Small hands holding me
A tiny voice cries out
"Momma!"
The bed begins to shake
Unable to move
I awaken_ to peace
My little ones sound asleep
_ I scan the room
Darkness _ a small light
Of gloom
Fallen back under
Waves of slumber
Tiny voices calling out
As I am their mother
The bed shaking
Though_
the earth wasn't quaking
Then knocks on the door
I rise up_ able to move
Cause I wasn't before.
Slowly making my way_
Down a dark hallway.
The door swung
opened
To nothing_
Frightened I was
Immediately went to close
and secure.
Suddenly_ a dark shadow came about
Grabbing me_
Covering my mouth.
This shadow bares
A face
Of my
dearly departed
spouse.
Awakened_ shakened
Twas but a dream
Twas but a nightmare
As I sit up, scanning the room
Quiet as a mouse
"Are you there?"
