The Tall Narrow Bakery

The Tall Narrow Bakery

1 min
267

On a wild, windy evening,

When the clouds are glued together to hide the sun,

Jackets and sweaters carry humans and bluster down streets,

Beside a tall, narrow bakery.

A bakery whose windows were the lucky holders of its finest cakes,

Tempting every body, and drawing each hand toward the door.

The cakes are all tall and narrow,

With tiered layers winding to their summits

That boasted a glorious, round and red cherry.

They came in all colours of the rainbow and more,

Topped off with crowns of snow-like cream

With candles placed that exclaimed,

                 5!

          12!

                 50!

Every birthday, an excuse

To loll about the bakery,

Stare at the cakes,

And ultimately, give in to the craving.

So would the people stride out the bakery,

The packages cradled in their arms,

So would they stride through the streets,

Away from the tall, narrow bakery.
