The Step

She looked down her feet,

And she could hear her heart skip a beat.

It was something new,

She‘d knew,

Since the moment she had stepped on it.

She had gone through a lot and seen a lot,

And her life had been a rolling stone.

She told herself “it’s alright “,

But people said it wasn’t.

She closed her eyes and prayed

The lord for his mercy.

She knew that her words were sharper than the knife.

People mocked her but;

She had known that before.

All it took her was a step ahead and

She immediately knew that she was on the top

Of the world's highest peak!

It wasn’t a mountain or plateau,

That she had climbed over.

She had climbed over the mountain that she had within her.

Now, she is a bird flying high in the sky,

Through the clouds and upon the oceans,

Able to reach the actual peaks.

Years later, she remembers fondly

Of the step she had chosen to take,

Not with a support but on her OWN ....
