Darkness

Darkness

Darkness that resides inside me,

Compels and fights with who I choose to be.

Silent screams with rhythms of their own,

Deep down inside me, that’s all I have ever known.

My mouth stitched, and hands tied,

Who am I? I can’t decide.

Pain and sorrow grip my heart,

Horrid memories are what I thwart.

A glimmer of hope is all I need,

To rise from the dust and never bleed.

Hiding scars behind my smile,

But forgetting my past will take me awhile.
