The Soldier’s Wife

She waits on the fringes of an isolated island called ‘Wait’; Time is her distant foe which always makes him come late. War-time tests her every sinew and strength in life; she hopes, she despairs, she waits, for she is a soldier’s wife. 

 

Oh, the strife that is building again within my heart

For you have travelled to the border once more,

Despair’s cold hand silently clenches me

And it holds ransom my life and its very core.

I begged you, like always, dear do not go

But duty calls, like always, you lovingly said to me,

And the patriotism and country-love in your eyes

That’s hidden in your badge, you made me see.
